February 8, 201214 yr Being a scroller for about 10 years now, I have through my share of products.  From Harbor Freight to Excaliber.  All of these saws have been great for the time.  THEN I saw a real Velocipede at a craft show in Ohio.  This got my juices flowing. Then I heard of Rick Hutcheson and his collection.  After checking him out, I found out that he had plans for a Pedal Power Scroll Saw.  Just up my alley.  Bought the plans, purchased the material, got to making sawdust (with sweat, tears, @#$^%^%, joy, etc). Now that it is about 98% done, it's time to share this project with the group here.Check me out at:  Fred and his machineComments anyone?????ThanksFredFredaka Pop's Shopwww.pops-shop.comEX-21'Don't complain about the storm - learn to dance in the rain.'
February 8, 201214 yr Really cool project Fred. How time have you got in it so far ? A video demonstration would be great too. Greghttp://www.thesawdustfactory.net/
February 8, 201214 yr Fred,Some enterprising young woodworkers were selling velocipedes at a show I attended in Branson, Mo. in the early 90's. IIRC, they were asking $650. A lot, I thought, at the time. After perusing your blog, I can see why they were so expensive.Do you use yours much? Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' February 9, 201214 yr Now I know what to do with my old belt drive machines, and that unused excersize bike! Lets see now, pedal powered table saw, lathe, scroll saw, bandsaw, drillpress, shaper, etc. Nahhhh! That's just to much excersize for me! Â Larry
February 9, 201214 yr Not to mention with the table saw you'll be feeding the material through as your pedaling! February 12, 201214 yr I would love to have one of those. Â Would be excellent on location for demos and so "green".SQHappiness is wood chips flying!
February 13, 201214 yr Author SQ - that's what it's for - when I get it working.obtw folks - Was going to make the video today and decided to take it for a spin (as it were). Â After about 5 minutes the drive wheel got really sloppy. Â Couldn't keep it peddling right. Â Checked into it and - hold on to your shorts - I BROKE THE KEY. Â The plans call for it to be made from 1/4" baltic birch. Â Not good. Â Took the thing apart again, went out and got an aluminum strip, epoxyed two together to make it thicker, trimmed down to size, rebuilt the drive wheel and peddles to make them fit the aluminum. Â Will give it try again tomorrow. Â THEN maybe I can get the video. Â This weekend project is getting expensive (but will be great when I get it to work the way I want it.Fredaka Pop's Shopwww.pops-shop.comEX-21'Don't complain about the storm - learn to dance in the rain.'
