Our New Old Woodworking Machinery Forum Host

Featured Replies

Well we just seem to continue forming up a wonderful team of forum hosts here at The Patriot Woodworker!

I would like you all to put your hands together and give Mr Larry Buskirk a big pat on the back for his new appointment here at The Patriot Woodworker as our Old Woodworking Machinery Forum Host!

Larry has been with us for quite some time now and he has proven his muster in the world of Old Woodworking Machinery. I have personally had a helping hand given to me by Larry when it came to figuring out the wiring of my Walker Turner Drill Press Motor. He had it figured in minutes

Larry loves interacting with folks here and getting them to open up and share their experiences. He is an asset to our network and I am sure he'll do fine by the Old Woodworking Machinery Forum.

How can you argue with a face like Larry's! He'll disarm you in an instant with his quick wit and cheery demeanor. Not to mention he know what the heck he is talking about. Soon we will have our "Meet Your Site Hosts" page up and running so you can read in depth about some of the folks who make this little corner of our world, just that much better by helping our members around here.

Thank you so much Larry for stepping up to the plate, we are glad your here ,and we are happy your in charge of the Old Woodworking Machinery Forum.

Hi Everyone,

I'm glad to be a member here on The Patriot Woodworker, you're all a great group of people.

When I was asked to fill this position, I felt that there are members here that are better qualified due to the level of experiance that they possess. I hope that my acceptance of this position doesn't offend them.

I accepted the position due to the fact that I am retired, and have time available that some of the other members may not   due to employment and other obligations. That and the fact that I too share the appreciation of Old Woodworking Machines

I've been collecting my crew of old machines for about the last fifteen years, and am finally getting around to redoing them. Some of you may allready know me from my Delta 700 Scroll Saw rebuild, and my Portable Delta Shop project.

My machine rebuilds are not authentic restorations, but more of a Resto/ Mod type of rebuild. I've used parts adapted from later model machines, along with homemade parts to get the machines running again. I'm whats considered a "bottom feeder" in that the machines that I start with most people would walk away from, thinking they are to far gone to save. I take on these machines because they're cheaper to aquire, and I like the challenge of bringing them back to life. That and the fact that I have more time than money, and once they are redone they will outlast most machines made today.

So I hope to be a help to those of you that might consider saving an Old Woodworking Machine for your own enjoyment, or if you're like me trying to put a shop together on a shoestring budget save a few bucks by adopting older equipment.

Thanks John,

We'll get you hooked yet! 24.gif

And when we do you'll see why we put the time we do into these Old Woodworking Machines.

It's an extension of a hobby that you allready enjoy, and will enjoy even more using the piece of history that you preserve for future woodworkers to admire.

That and the Wow factor when your woodworking buddies see what you have accomplished.113.gif

A bit of a Warning though.

Once you get started you won't be able to do just one, and will be looking for another! 24.gif

Thanks Sue,

After seeing Jim Johnstuns scroll saw projects I'll be putting the Old Delta 700  Scroll Saw to work real soon! First I have to get power into the shop, I tried to today but as soon as I went outside it started with a rain/snow mix. Oh Well! 106.gif I need to get heat and lighting going in there so I can get back to working on the machines. Mid 30's temperatures just aren't making it!

I'll be putting the Delta 700  Scroll Saw on a stand in combination with the Delta 785 bandsaw, with the two machines back to back. I'll have to modify the scroll saw stand I have to do so. They will both use the same motor. That's if I don't mount a drillpress between them.39.gif Oh No! Here we go again!24.gif

Delta had this as the 575 combination unit in the 1933 catalog using the 620 drillpress, 700 scroll saw, and 785 bandsaw all mounted on the same bench, and all ran from a single motor.43.gif I wonder if I can find a 620 laying around somewhere?39.gif Oh Well! It's nice to dream!24.gif

 Shane,

Thank You!

I feel like I've just been complimented  by one of the Premier OWWM Restorers, and hope to see more of your magnificent work featured here on The Patriot Woodworker. I've admired your work for a long time, and followed you to TPW when you did the Crescent Universal Woodworker  Restoration article here.
