Friday, March 30th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

For me it has been a quite busy week dealing with things that have nothing to do with woodworking but are just things you have to do. I have spent a good part of this week at the hospital, my mother who is 82 has been in a great deal of pain this week and we discovered she has a fractured disc in the lumbar section. We now have her fitted with a brace and they are starting to get her up and walking again but it will be two to three months of healing time.

My wife lost a great aunt this week, 93, that survived the April 27th 2011 F5 tornado that took her house and left nothing that resembled a house, but left her still in her bed sitting on the bare foundation. After a year of health issues, she has gone home to be with her Lord in Heaven. We will be out of town a little bit this weekend for the funeral.

I know this doesn't start off much about woodworking but that has been the week and upcoming weekend for me. I did have a bit of break on Tuesday when my great friend and his wonderful wife stopped by for a visit. Sure wish we had been able to spend more time, but they had to get back home. At least I think that was why he was in a hurry, I better go back over to the wood storage and make sure everything is still safe.3.gif

I have a craft show next Friday so I have a few items to try to get ready and hoping I can get some time in the shop this week. I could be burning the lights late this week.

I am trying to catch up on post so I may have missed some wonderful projects this week. Tell us what you are working on this weekend. Will you be in the shop, gardening, HDL (Ron saw a few of my unfinished HDL projects), yard work, or just plain relaxing? What's it look like for you? Post some pictures so we can see what you are working on this weekend.

I usually limit my wood stuffs to turning, but bluebird houses are on my agenda for this week. I was inspired by the sad shape  that several of my neighbor's bird houses are in. I thought it would be nice to surprise her with some new replacements to hang this fall.

Your a very busy man these days John! Stay sane and keep safe buddy.

I'll be in the shop working on my customers colonial display cabinet. I finally got the Accu Head in place and working well so I can get into that tiger maple with out fear of tear out.

I am so close to finishing the rocker that I can see it sitting in a gallery now waiting for a special person to make it part of their home.

But the rocker will have to wait, I have a deadline that needs to be met!

Thanks John for taking the time out of your incredibly busy schedule these days to be here.

John, praying for a bit of calm in your life.  Today I'm resting up from a great trip to Alabama.  Carrying all the wood I brought back made me tired.  Tomorrow I have to start a box for surveys for the church.  It has to be completed before I leave for Branson in a couple of weeks.

Thanks from this quarter too, John. I look forward each Friday to everyone's contribution to the thread. Often makes me realize how lazy and unproductive I am.Frown.gif But, it also prompts me to get off my butt and do something.113.gif

I have a few boxes to finish for my Japanese connection, 2 more for a Tucson customer and a contraption ala Hylton to make canes with. I seriously doubt that this weekend AND the next week will cover it.

If that cane making contraption works well, I've been thinking of making a dozen or so for VA hospitals. Anyone care to join me? I'd like to make them with separate handles and I may (probably) be coming to you guys with questions about the best way to attach them.

Have a good week, all.

Go ahead and rub it in Ron! Does John realize how much wood you actually brought back? You know, from the midnight raid after he loaded up your trailer?24.gif

I have been and will continue praying for you and your family John as I know the difficulties dealing with sickness and death in the family. Tami and I are now in Phoenix AZ (actually. just outside of Phoenix in Goodyear) as a dear friend Laura passed away and the funeral is tomorrow. She was a 2nd mother to my wife and her daughter Michelle has been one of my wife's best friends since Jr. High and brought her to Christ. We used to do a college age bible study group in their home after my wife and I met in 1982. So this will be good time to spend with some old friends to comfort each other. We will be here for a few days, so no woodworking for me pretty much for this week. But I do have a number of things in the mix for after we get back home.

I checked my blue bird houses last weekend and 2 out of 3 were occupied, down here it's getting to be time to fill the humming bird feeders too.

Sounds like a week for Moms and hospitals. Spent last Sunday in the emergency room with my Mom. Dizzy spell, tested her for everything. Turned out to be an inner ear problem- which is good news when you think of the other possibilities.

Still working on my brother-in-law's lectern. In the sanding phase.

It also been hectic on this home front for last 2 months.  My wife mom passed away in the first part of February.  Since then we make 7 hrs drive to her mom house just about every 2 weeks.  Last week we took down the wall paper in the bath room and repainted the walls.  Ending up having to replace the base board also.  She even talking going back next week to move furniture and washer / dryer into the garage,   Guess honey do projects is in her planning also.  She came home from work and was talking about cleaning out the old flower bed in the front yard.  That relates to digging up those shrubs.  Then making new flower bed in the middle of the front yard plus planting a tree.  So much from wood working.

But I did get into the garage/ shop some.  Re-made some wood pieces that fit the miter slot on the grizzly table saw for shop made feather boards.  Now working on making jig for the Grizzly band saw for re-sawing lumber.  And if I get time want to re-make the tenon jig for the grizzly table saw.  The one I have was for the old saw fence. Grizzly fence is much wider than the old Delta fence.

I'm working on the final touches of a scroll saw trinket box. The box is made from Walnut and Maple and the ribbons are made from Purple Heart, Cheery and Maple. I'll post the completed box this weekend.

haven't done to much this week. Just completed a steady rest except for all the welding.  Have to wait for the neighbor to get home on the 6th for that.  Have cut out a few small butterflys on the scroll saw.  Everyone have a good weekend and make lots of wood chips.   Jim

Mike - great looking box.  I am intrigued.  How did you make the ribbons????
