Glad you brought this up. It's been bugging me all week.

And John Morris has used the "S..." word!

Sorry, got a little overzealous with some of my "free for all" posts.

I'm sorry. It was the "H" word.

Maybe it'd be best to publish a list of banned words?

One person's profanity is another's regular language. So a little specificity would go a long way.

You might also check out  the options that the hosting company offers. Some sites turn a predetermined list of characters into asterisks. So   when the POST or SUBMIT button is clicked the prohibited language comes out as a string of asterisks.

They usually pick  the usual round up of swear words, but  I've seen it expanded to things like "bugger" too.

The for sure list of banned words was performed by George Carlin.

I won't repeat them here!68.gif...109.gif....107.gif.....102.gif....24.gif24.gif24.gif

Aww yes the beloved H word, I use that daily, in my parts it's a common word, but Harry, I will add it to the list for our regional language issues, thanks. There is a predetermined list, I can flip the switch to ban the words but I had not thought of it till now, it never seemed like we needed to, until now!24.gif

not sure If I have used any or not I am sorry if I have. I will admit I have been known to use such word at times, like smashing my thumb with a hammer.

In North Carolina it is against the law to use obscene gesters when driving.  You can get a heafty fine and/or jail time.

Also heard on the news about some town (I think in Maine) ordanace fining people for swearing in public.

I agree with Cliff that a list is needed.  For example several people appologized for using  the "S" word but what about the

"C--p" word that means the same thing?  Or "Dang it" etcetera?  There are so many  curse and swear words that it is sometimes difficult to know which word will set someone off.  A list of banned words would be helpful.  Also as Cliff mentioned some forum software/programs do offer a banned list option but it is still easy to get around it.  Just look at your email.

I have a list of "banned" words on my email service that will send the email to trash.  At first I put in "viagra" but then people started getting around it by using "VIAGRA."  Then I added that but then another change -- "v_i_a_g_r_a"  You have to acount for all the possibiities when using such lists to scan emails and posts that it becomes very burdomsome to cover all the bases.

Perhaps the best way to come up with a list is to visit local schools to see what words they ban.  I would opt out for what John has done - simply post a reminder.  We are adults and if we don't have a command of the English language, then we need to bone up on our vocabulary.  There are many ways of saying "things just went to S***."  One way is to say that "everything then went south."

Two of my favorite words are "conversation" and "in-camera."  Look up the old/original definition of conversation.

Lifebouy will blind you!   Ask Ralphie.
