Here is a pic of some candy dishes finished with 3 coats of Behlens. They are red oak and walnut. Not the greatest photography. But, I think you can see that the finish didn't alter the wood tones at all. I guess one could stain before sealing with the Behlens.

Nope. There were part of a set from MLCS Woodworking. It included the bowl bit and extension. The template was actually a complete circle. They were gifts for family members at a reunion. Cut the circle in half to save time.

Working on a set of walnut trivets. Smallest 7 1/2 ", medium 8 1/2" and largest  9 1/2 inches at widest points.  Got the wood planed and outside edges cut out.  Hope to get all the inside cuts done with weekend.

Charles, so sorry to hear that it can apart on you. It was looking so good. I know that was disappointing to you.

Ok, after my initial anger was gone over this thing breaking a huge chunk when it fell off the lathe, I decided I'd re chuck it and make the best of a bad thing. I got it shaved down andf looking great and decided i would again try turning it around to get the waste block off and finish off the back. I got it turned around and got half way through getting the waste block off, it catches on the tool and slams into the tool rest pops in the air and hits the lathe and breaks again. I get the hint. I'm not working on anything else this weekend. I'm done!

Thanks John, Yea i was pretty much to the point of tears last night. To spend so much time working on something and it falls apart like that through no fault of my own. I've had enough stuff go wrong lately, didn't need that happening too. It was supposed to be a gift to my younger brother & his wife.

Anyway, I glued up a few pieces of scrap and decided I'll try making a box of some kind out of it. These pieces have been laying around for several weeks so I decided to do something with them. They all have some spalting or a lot of spalting on them so it will be interesting to see what it looks like after turning. If it doesn't look so great, there is always the option of keeping it for my own use It's about 5" long at this point and about 3 " wide.
