October 20, 201213 yr Just give a few weeks to get it done, though.  Moving days suck.  Just picked up a #110 and won a #4 plane.    Both will need some work...Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
October 20, 201213 yr Author Not a problem, I'm in no rush for it to be done, I'm still in process of making a knob for it too, but it's getting put on hold for paying projects Take all the time you need. Thanks again. steven newman said: Just give a few weeks to get it done, though.  Moving days suck.  Just picked up a #110 and won a #4 plane.    Both will need some work... October 21, 201213 yr  Near as I can tell, this plane is a UNION  From NEW BRITAIN CT.   Can't make out the model number, though.  Might have a beech blank out at the Barn, will check when i go out next time...Union totes were close to a Stanley in shape, but they used a oval headed bolt, instead of Stanley's two piece bolt. This is a rough shaped one, can be fine tuned as needed. October 21, 201213 yr Author Hi Steve, Yea i can make out Union on the front of the block as well as model #26 As a matter of fact I am looking for the bolt right now and can't find it. I had all metallic parts in one place except for the knob screw because I was working on a knob for it. You are correct this unit had Beechwood tote and knob and what you are showing here is as close to what i have as i think you can get as far as shape. I don't know if they stained the tote and knob before sale or if that was done after market, but i think that it was factory done. November 7, 201213 yr Author Steve I finally did find that bolt, or actually my aid did, apparently the cat knocked it under the bed. Its actually looking more like a slightly round head screw, slotted for a standard screwdriver, and it is somewhat bent but may still be useful. I don't know if this was the original but it probably is. The tote you showed in your last picture there looks nearly identical to what I need . If you don't mind making me one yea I'll pay for it. November 8, 201213 yr I would need to know a couple things first.    The angle that the bolt goes through the tote, where it is at the top and the bottom.   Top of the hole would get a Union style counter sink for that bolt.   I would need to know if there is a hole in the bottom of the tote for a nub.  The nub is where the bolt screws into.   Is the area under the tote flat?  Or, does it have a nub sticking up?  IF I can get out to the Pole Barn shop, I'll check on my two Union planes, and see if there is a blank out there.  It seems that Union copied about everything Stanley did, or was it the other way around.    The Bolt hole is just a hair different angle, though.Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
November 8, 201213 yr Author It is indeed a Union I can see that through the crud on the front of it and the bottom of the tote does have a recess to accept the nub on the plate and also recessed at the top. This looks to be more than a 45 degree angle that the bolt sits at, but I have no angle finder. Thanks let me know if you need anything else.steven newman said: I would need to know a couple things first. The Bolt hole is just a hair different angle, though. November 19, 201213 yr A Black Walnut tote is almost done, still needs a lot of sanding.     Also have a Beech tote blank sitting with it.   Need an address to send a box to.Pictures will be a bit later, nap time right now.    Have to work tonight, and I get re-habbed in the morning after I get off work.  Schedule is starting to get a bit crazy right now.....Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
November 19, 201213 yr And a few pictures ( I hope)Walnut on the left, a Beech one on the right.   Walnut is drilled out, nothing done to the Beech tote. The other sides.    Still needs a bit more sanding, unless Charles would like a shot at it. I still need to countersink for that Union bolt.     Took MAYBE an hour out in the shop at the Pole Barn this morning, Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
November 19, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the help Steve, I'll message you the address. I actually like the color of hte walnut better htan I do the beach but I am not sure that it will hold up as well. What's your thought on that?Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
November 19, 201213 yr Most of mine seem to be holding up nicely, at least the Walnut ones.  The beech has the grain running vertically, something I was going to try out, better used the walnut instead.   Just the way the shop goes, i guess..a little sanding helps on these. Two coats of BLO on top of them as well.  Just need either some wax, or a clear finish... November 19, 201213 yr Author Looks great Steve.whichever you feel is best to send is fine with me, I have yet to make a knob for it and I'll wait to see which one arrives before doing that.ThanksCharles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
November 20, 201213 yr  I will be sending both of these totes.   The deal will be that YOU will be shaping the other tote to match the Walnut one.   Then, just make a jig to drill it. Files, rasps, strips of sanding belts, maybe a piece of glass.  I even use a small drum sander on a drill press, and a drill...Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
