Friday, January 18th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

Well the middle of January has brought a constant change in our weather. We had rain for about 9 days straight, then a morning of snow, so days in the 70 and last night it was 26 degrees. Right now there is no such thing as winter and summer clothes, we have to have them all for at least a short time each day. In the Morning it is cold, short sleeves around lunch and back to the coat to go home. Oh well, that is the weather in the South. If you don't like what you have, wait a few minutes and it will change.

My shop have been pretty empty for the past week and a half so I have not projects that are actually working right now. I have many that are sitting that are just waiting on me to get back in there. I think I hear the tools calling my name. I am hoping for a little time in there this weekend but for us right now it is not likely.

So with that, let's talk about what all of you are doing. I know you are all making projects and have them on your list. Many are already getting geared up for the craft season that will begin in a short time. How about sharing with us here at TPW what you have on your woodworking agenda this weekend. Are you building that new jig you have been needing, spending time in working on home improvement, still taking down the Christmas decorations, doing the HDL for the ? time, or just still laying on the couch or recliner and enjoying the playoff in the NFL or pulling for your schools basketball team? I know you have some great projects out there as I do get to look as some of the wonderful pictures you all post.

Share with us your project and we love to see pictures. Hey you never know you might just inspire another woodworker to give it a try. The inquiring minds here at TPW want to know what's Up in your shop.

Weel John, this is a busy weekend.  Today, Friday, I'm headed with my bride to the Indy Woodworking show and if time allows I'll hit the gun show also. (looking for a 9mm Glock)  Tomorrow I'll continue working on a corner cupboard for my daughter.  This is part 1 of a two part project.  The computer desk is next (insert sigh here).  I'll snap some photos as I begin the assembly process. This is kinda slow because all she gave me was a sketch on a napkin so I get to figure out the construction.  Sunday, I have to opt out of church so that I can drive to Illinois and return back on the same day.  Moving some furniture.  Maybe I'll get to watch a little football Sunday too.

Now that most of the parts for the gun case have been cut and sized, it's time for ASSEMBLY!!!!!

Won't be working Sunday and Monday. Wife and I are taking a trip to Prescott catch a concert and do some antique shopping.

Well, "no working" is a misnomer. The time spent in the shop is not real work.....but antique shopping (ANY SHOPPING) definitely is.

YIKES - January 18th already ? ? ? ?  Looks like this is going to be another whiz bang year.  Seem,s like they are going by too quickly.

Projects for the weekend (including today) - Get the trailer ready, fuel up the truck, clean porch, clean shop - and that's today.  Tomorrow and Sunday will be on the road.  800 miles.  Duluth, GA to Rockwall, TX.  Now some of you are probably thinking - "What the heck is in Rockwall, TX that has to do with woodworking?"  Does the name Seyco give you a hint?  If not, I'll post a couple of pix and details on Monday, if able.

How about the rest of y'all?  Let us know.

Are you going for the black/gold 30th anniversary edition?

Sadly the only thing on my workbench is a whole lot of nothing. I had looked forward to getting back at things in the shop on Monday as I had a number of things that I wanted to get done after the Christmas and New Years holidays as my wife the teacher headed back to work. But that all went down the tubes on my Monday morning walk when I hit an unseen patch of ice in the dark and torn the rotator cuff in my right shoulder. So now I am out of commission for a few weeks at best maybe a few months if I need to have surgery. Saw the doctor yesterday and had x-rays done so I am waiting for his review. Good thing I have my Kindle so I can read.

Got a start on the two grinders Mimi wanted. I promised Charles, I'd post some pix of the blanks before they were shaped and turned.

This is one (pepper- walnut top) after the glue up and the corners knocked off.

ning-img-1650-18271-23.jpg?width=721

Both after being rounded. The waste block at the top of each for clamping in the chuck.

ning-img-1661-18271-51.jpg?width=721

The one chucked onto the lathe has been partially drilled and an insert added to secure the blank during the tenoning phase.

Off to pick up a new TV. Old one died last week and costs half as much as a new one to repair. And to think, with just a few more payments that B&W Philco Record Player/TV/Radio combo would have been all mine!

Sounds like a new addition to the shop may be coming. Well if you get to Birmingham and need a detour, turn North on I65 and get off at exit 310 onto AL157 North and I will meet you at the other end. It would only be about a 120 mile detour. You could then go on to Memphis, pass through Arkansas and see Charles and still end up on I30 in Rockwall Tx.

Now that would be a road trip!

Gene, I hear your pain on the shopping, but we have an agreement. She will walk through the woodworking stores and lumber yards with me and I go to the shops she wants to. I do cheat a little in that I find a place and sit down while she looks and then she comes back to get me. I just take the iPad and do a little checking in at TPW while I wait on her.

We expect a roving reporter report back to TPW about the Woodworking Show and even the Gun show if you want.

We need pictures.

Way too much !!!!! I need to finish up an order for some state ornaments that I've been working on off and for 2 weeks now. Got plenty to work on for the up coming craft show season, the first show we're thinking about doing is around the second weekend in March, sent the paperwork ing for one on the last weekend of March today. So much for taking it easy this winter.
