Hello everyone.  HJ invited me to join this forum.  Sorry for the dual post, but was suggested that I post in the "Introduction" section too.

I am currently a hobbyist, but do occasionally use my machine for work related builds.  I have recently upgraded to a Fine Line Automation Saturn 4x4 machine after using a self built machine for a couple of years.  I am also using Linuxcnc machine control software and mainly Vectric VCarve Pro for CAM software.  I am a controls electrician by trade and have enjoyed building my own controls for both of my machines.  I am currently self employed, but worked for 21 years as a maintenance electrician for a very large cabinet mfg company (whom I still do most of my work with).  I got interested in cnc's by having to repair them.  With no programming knowledge, other than what I have learned on my own, I am starting to be able to create some pretty neat stuff.

I have attached a couple of my favorite projects to date.  It was a plaque for my parents 60th.  It was done on a basswood live edge blank.  I inlayed a walnut medallion.  Overall, was pretty happy with the results.  This was done on my self built machine as well.

Looking forward to meeting new people and learning some new techniques.

Dave

Yay Dave!!!!!! you made it.  Gotta show em the latest sign for the lake house!!!!

He's another one of those "smart" ones, but I like him anyway.

By the way, Dave, new members always bring doughnuts. You will be harassed until you do! Just be aware, some of these guys are doughnut hogs, so, bring more than a dozen to the party. :D

Why settle for a pop tart, when you can have real pastries? Get your order in John...

My luck Dave will bring them tonight while I'm asleep and Stick, Gramps and Dan will get em all!

Welcome!  Last time I asked for ice cream and got yelled at.  Hey!  It's Summer.

Welcome aboard, Dave. Yeah, I know, it's all John's fault! Me too.

Welcome to the crew Dave.

I lurk about on here a lot, and post occasionally.  I say welcome as well. And nice work!

I got into the cnc side of things with my woodworking a couple of years ago when I picked up an x-carve machine from Inventables with the intention of using it to add another dimension to my abilities and enhancements to my projects that I would most likely not be able to otherwise.

Here is one that I just put the finishing touches on this evening, it's a retirement gift for a gal in the main office of my employer.

Your handle (name ) suggests to me Bemidji, Mn. area?

Park Rapids here.

You are correct "Joe the Gas Man", I am just north of Bemidji!  Didn't know there were any other cnc people in the area.  Will have to get together!

Dave

You're welcome Dave.  LOL

Sorry I'm late to your welcoming party @beltramidave...Great to have you here along with all the other CNC guys. Your (& their) expertise is opening up an entire new dimension to TPW and very much welcomed for us old school folks. Looking forward to learning about the possibilities of "machining wood."

BTW, I didn't see that you brought donuts yet...that's mainly what I bring to the table here...an appetite for donuts.
