Bought some laminate for some bench tops. I need to cut this. 1st choice table saw fine blade and cut slowly. 2nd choice cut with a razor and snap it. How do you cut laminate. If it chips some that is fine I always go +1/2" both length and width.

Expand Your Horizons- Do you do craft shows or just looking for some new ideas for turnings? Mike Peace has two neat turned "animals" that might interest you. New Turning Items- A couple of weeks ago, we posted a video from Todd Raines demonstrating the Robust "Tru-Arc" tool. Sam Angelo gives us his impression of the tool in this video- Everything Else- I did an Easy Wood Tools demonstration for The Catoctin Area Turners' club last Thursday in Leesburg, VA. I thought @Gerald would be interested in their Beads of Courage boxes shown during the show and tell portion of their meeting Well the rolling pin blanks are finally finished- yesterday! The demo/workshop is this Saturday. 24 blanks here and 2 more at the workshop location. I make my blanks 22" long and 2 x 2" square. The lathes available for the workshop max out at 15" and 17" so angles had to be adjusted for a pleasing look when turned. Also some of the supplied blanks were smaller that 2 x 2 all that required different cutting angles. Some blanks were larger (almost 3 x 3) and my jig for cutting the angles wouldn't let the saw blade reach a high enough point to cut the proper insert slots. Had to design another jig for those blanks. Now on to Mimi's honey-do list that has been expanding exponentially! Safe turning

Friend asked me to make a Christmas gift for his wife, wants a Lazy Susan like mine but stained. Suggested just using a dark wood like walnut, he wants it to match the table, which is stained. Okay no problem. His table is oak so I pulled some from supply and glued two 7 inch pieces together after I made a tongue and groove joint. Now here is my issue. I cannot turn more than 9 1/2 inches on either lathe. BUT, as @steven newman likes to say, we have ways. Using my circle cutting jig for the bandsaw I made this 13 inches in diameter. Now to smooth it down I set up my Variable speed drill and a jig with a bearing for support. Instant lathe! No need for shaping here just smooth it down and get rid of BS marks. Once done now I need a 1/4 groove for the chain to go in. Both pieces go to router table and get this done. The center and top I can turn so they got glued and turned down. The 1/4 hole through everything is my guide for assembly. Once done I drive a oak dowel in the top and we are good. Be a few days before finish is done. Plenty of time to be done for Christmas. Glue up for stem, had 3 pieces of 3/4 by 2 1/2 inches for stem. dry fit Stain the stem.

I am applying high pressure laminate to five of six sides of four pieces of ply. I applied the large surfaces first. Stupid me. I should have done the edges first. It can be done the way I am doing to but it'd be a sight easier if I did the edges first.

So I picked up a vintage Mayline Futur-Matic-Drafting-Table. This table is electrically adjustable from about 30" to 48" above the floor, and works great. My goal is to rehab it into a standing desk. This means addressing the top. I would like to make a new top with a laminate top (formica, wilsonart etc.). It will see use 7-8hrs a day. This top will be 3'x6' I would really like to have a waterfall/rounded profile on the long edges. This brings up the question of is this something I can successfully do myself with say a heat gun and patience? Or should it be left up to the pros? What radius do you think would be a safe bend? Suggestions or Ideas? Thanks, TxMoose MAYLINE 1.pdf MAYLINE 2.pdf
