I picked up my newly sharpened jointer blades yesterday and put them back on. It's on a combo-machine, Hitachi F1000A. Below the blade assembly is a pair of springs that push the blade up so they can be set. Something went wrong and the springs weren't where they were supposed to be. They ended up getting crimped at the top instead of being enclosed. So I removed the blade and tried again. It seemed good until I ran a test piece through. The blade worked loose, chipped the edge of the cast iron bed, bent and chipped the blade, and bent the retainer. It's almost 40 years old and parts, other than blades, are mostly discontinued. Talking to the repair shop and they're going to check with Hitachi to see if the replacement model's parts will work on my model. Otherwise, it's RIP on a very nice machine. Darn.

Another brand went to the Dark Side

I just heard an ad on the radio from Lowes. It announced that the Hitachi tools would soon be Metabo XXX. Went on to say the tools will still be the same Hitachi quality, but if you want the Hitachi name rush in and load up (or something like that). Not sure what's going on, but it sounds like Metabo (which has always meant high quality European tools to me) has picked up an Asian line to compete with somebody. I guess I would think Lowes would know that Metabo are Cadillac tools, and Hitachi would be a step down (no offense to Hitachi fans, but the ones I've seen aren't in the Metabo league). -
I have the Hitachi M12VC, 2 1/4 HP router in my router table. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced router lift that will accept this router?

I've had my 18 volt Hatachi For about 3 years and it was really great. Light, powerful and quick recharge. Yesterday it quit. Just quit. Then got hot and started to smoke. I have 2 batteries and a flashlight that came with it. I thought about getting an exact replacement to have 4 batteries. So I did a lot of web searching and pricing. I stopped looking when I found an industrial Porter Cable 20 volt with all the goodies on sale at Amazon. A $269 drill with 2 batteries and free shipping for $99 It will be here on the 16th......I'll let you know what I think, it had a ton of great reviews
