After the last meeting our turning club had back in November we were diccussing covers for turning tools to protect the edges from damage and protect others from getting hurt by the sharp edges. I thought maybe Kydex and someone suggested PVC. I looked at what I had and the cost of getting different diameters. For my 5/8 Thompson I used 1/2 schedule 40 and a heat gun to soften and stretch. For my 1 1/4 scrapers I used 1 inch schedule 40 which when flattened is a perfect fit. Note that schedule 40 has a little memory so while still hot tends to spring back so I had to leave in the vise to cool and it stays that way. The cover for the bowl gouge fits so well that the gouge will not go any deeper into the sleeve.
