Steward the Shaker material legacy—the Museum’s artifacts and archives and Mount Lebanon’s historic buildings and landscape—through collecting, conserving, preserving, protecting, documenting, and restoring.

 

Create a museum at Mount Lebanon that fosters a community of inquiry, re-imagines how visitors interact with Shaker history, and unites the world’s most comprehensive Shaker collections with the most important historic Shaker site.

 

Share with diverse audiences the individual and collective stories of the Shakers and their contributions to society—including religion, equality, communal living, pacifism, design, craft, and technology—through innovative and collaborative programs, public media content, and exhibitions.
