I harvested a butternut tree from my uncle's farm when a tornado went thru.  A couple years ago, I used the last of it to make a memory candle display for the church.

 

Here are some of the "leftovers"  - there were 3 rows and about 20 across on a platform of butternut.  It's pretty wood, grain like walnut (its cousin), but lighter in color and density.
