DuckSoup Members October 9, 20187 yr Author stats A favorite tool of a millwright, used it to set-up machines and roll lines. I think the nut on the left was used to set the level true or at a slight slope. You could place shims under the level then you would know how much to raise or lower the machine.
Grandpadave52 Members October 10, 20187 yr Author stats Very cool. Is it missing a plumb vile in the notched out area or is it hard to see from this picture?

Gramps, the vile is there, the vile is sitting vertically, if you look closely to the left side of the notch, you'll see a bit of glass peeking through.
Ron Dudelston Administrator October 11, 20187 yr Author stats The vial is protected like many machinist levels, the metal tube rotates to protect it. Just roll the tube to the bottom
