John Morris Administrator May 3, 20188 yr Author stats Nice and clean Lew, I would not have guessed that was white oak, looked like Maple from the image shot! Can you explain the process to cut those nice clean butt stock holes?
lew Administrator May 3, 20188 yr Author stats Thanks, John. I cheated! The bottom is two pieces. The holes are cut through the first piece then that piece is placed on a solid bottom.
Dadio Members May 3, 20188 yr (edited) Author stats That is a pretty big project for your shop. Real good job clean and simple. I have been pondering a gun rack for a long time but can't figure out how to lock them up to meet our local code. Is that a one size fits all hole for the butt stocks. What angle are the rifles, guessing 45 deg.? How long is it? I would need 3 of them in a row. Herb Edited May 3, 20188 yr by Dadio
lew Administrator May 4, 20188 yr Author stats Thanks, Herb! It was designed for 30 cal M1 carbines. The butt stock holes were designed around that rifles dimensions. Yes the angle is 45°. Also the bottom tilts up at the front at 3.5° to compensate for the butt stock angle. There are rare earth magnets in the top piece to hold the guns in place. I made some felt strips to line the top recesses to prevent the magnets from scratching the barrels. My friend will be finishing this rack and then apply the felt.
