I had built a bookcase from this plan when it was first published in Woodsmith maybe 20 years ago. That bookcase was built from oak, and I built it quite a bit larger than the plan, having shelves 48" wide. When we moved to a smaller house, that case was too large to fit in our much smaller rooms, so I built another one. This time using cherry it was built a lot closer to the plan, other than being made slightly shorter by making the capital a little less tall. The flutes on the column have a bullet point. I used a tip published in Wood (I think)  that's shown in the pictures.
