January 29, 201313 yr Well we had a little break in all the rain for a day and got into the woods and loaded some logs I have had down to take to the sawyer. As you can see the ground was still pretty wet. Had quite a bit of White Oak, Red Oak, Pecan and some Walnut to take. Also had some poplar to load on the trailer. The CAT makes easy work of handling the logs. It picks them up like they are toothpicks. And then just places them on the trailer. I will tell you it was still way too wet as when we got the trailer loaded and started out, the 4x4 F350 dually got stuck. We had to hook the CAT up to the truck and pull the F350 and the loaded trailer out. On the way to the mill we had a large hill to climb. Had to put the F350 in the granny gears and the lowest gear and crawl to the top of the hill we had such a load on it. But it made it fine and it is at the mill now. We are to get another 1.5" of rain tonight and into tomorrow and then cold by the weekend. Got about three more loads I need to get there. The mill likes to cut when it is cold so maybe we can get it dry enough to cut some more and have it ready. It was quite nice to get back out in the woods and get to working again. I'll let you know what it looks like when we go back and pick it up. John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

January 29, 201313 yr Feel free to ship me out a few hundred BF of that white oak. It dries better in So. Calif. than it does in in Alabama. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :-)Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.net'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J. Vernon McGee

January 29, 201313 yr The only problem with that is that if we do make it down there in July we will be in a rental car and for some reason I don't think the white oak will fit in the trunk as well as in the overhead compartment of the airplane for the flight homeJohn Moody said:That might be a good reason for you to swing down through Alabama when you come east this year!John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

January 31, 201313 yr Ron, and Allen, I'll lend you the Stihl MS880 with the 59" bar. Just tell it what species of wood, and it'll sniff it out from 10 miles away. It gets a bit heavy though, with the 59" bar and chain on it weighs 83 lbs. Â Larry Old Woodworking Machinery Forum Host
