January 29, 201313 yr I've been working on these for awhile and finally getting the time to finish them. Both Jewelry boxes are made with Mahogany for the case and lid frame, walnut splines for the corner joints, Lace wood veneer and banding around the Lace wood for the lid. the finish is General Finishes clear sealer and 4 coats of clear matte wipe on poly. The bottom is covered with red velvet. I'm debating on adhering a mirror to the inside lid but trying to find a thin one and someone that can cut it exactly to size. The dividers (not shown yet) are made from Maple that I'm Ebonizing with India ink. Once the dividers are dry I'll post the completed pics. Thanks for looking, and comments good and bad welcomed! www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
January 29, 201313 yr Gorgeous, Mike!A mirror would be nice but it might be ashamed to cover the beautiful grain of the wood. Of course that's a man's point of view!Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!

January 29, 201313 yr Author Thanks Harry! The case is made from 3/4" re-sawed to 5/8" with a 1/4" Baltic birch ply which is covered on both sides with velvet. Once the case is assembled with the splines the case is routed on the bottom with a round over bit then the front, back & sides are cut with a bevel to reduce the upper thickness to 1/4".  The lid frame is 3/4" stock assembled and then the outer lip rounded over the bevel cut to reduce the appearance thickness and give it a coffered look .Harry Brink said:That is some very nice work!!!How thick is the wood you're working with?Harry BrinkBulldog WoodworkingMontana

January 29, 201313 yr Wow Mike those are awesome. Beautiful wood with very nice grain patterns. Love the lacewood and the walnut inserts on the corners.I almost feel like Lew, the mirror would cover that beautiful grain but it probable would be nice. Most glass places can cut the mirror to what ever size you need. You can even get beveled edges.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
