February 1, 201313 yr One down and eleven months to go. Can you believe we have already finished the first month of 2013. It is in the history books my fellow woodworkers. Saturday will be Ground Hog day so lets hope that he doesn't see his shadow and this cold weather will move on out along with the rain we have had and we get to some nice spring like weather that will be good for giving us some shop time. Someone will have to give us an official report on the real ground hog and his venture for the day. So last night was the first time I really got to run the tools in my shop for almost two months. Wow is was nice to get in there and cut some wood and hear the blade hum, smell the fresh but wood and actually do something. I got started on making some cutting boards, My first craft show is a month away. I sold completely out of inventory during Christmas so I am starting with nothing on hand right now. That was a great problem to have and now it is nose to the grid stone. That stack is enough to glue up five in the first glue up. Cut to those lengths, I can make three large, two mediums and two small boards so it will get me going. I'll try to get a little late time out there tonight so I can glue them and put them in the clamps. Then tomorrow they will be ready to come out. I am hoping when I get them out of the clamps to be ready to put five more in but these will be bread trays. Cut to the same length, it will give me 10 finished trays so I am going to try to get back up and running quickly. Of course I never know what will happen on Saturday to take up unexpected time. So what about you all here at TPW? What is on your woodworking agenda this weekend? Will you be getting into your shop, working on inside home improvement, shoveling snow, HDL (those never end), or sitting by the fire enjoying some R&R and reading your favorite Wood related magazine? We here at TPW have inquiring minds and are interested in the projects you are working on. Please share them with us along with pictures. We love to see pictures and description of the project you are have. So now it is opened up, post away on what you are doing this weekend. February 1, 201313 yr John, Glad to hear your back to normal! I know that the last few weeks have been pretty harried for you. My weekend's work will be the same as the last 3, that blasted gun cabinet. I'm going to start responding to this thread each Friday with "See last week's post". I did get that shelf narrowed successfully. A router and a Japanese pull saw did the trick. It may just be my imagination or wishful thinking but, I think I discern a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' February 1, 201313 yr John - Gee, son, that is really too bad that you have to start from scratch because you sold out. Â I can just see those big ole tears flowing as I write this. Â (boo hoo boo hoo) Â Gene - keep that light shining. As for me, since we just got back home last night, it will be putting my shop back together with the new saw, obtaining some of those dried trees and get to work. Â My first show is also about a month away. Fredaka Pop's Shopwww.pops-shop.com'Soooooo many patterns - sooooo little time'Scroll Saw Forum Host
February 1, 201313 yr I am hoping that Monday I can get back out to the shop to some clean up and then work on making a couple of jigs for my table saw for some upcoming projects. My shoulder is healing up with less pain and I am getting more mobility/flexibility, but it is still pretty stiff and clunky. So I still have to take things easy for a few more weeks with no heavy lifting. I am still chewing on some things to make for more long term items as I want to get back into making/selling things this year both online and through some local craft shows. My son and daughter-in-law are looking at going into foreign missions and I want to use sales of specific items to go towards their support. They are looking at working with a ministry called 20 Schemes which is planting churches in impoverished urban communities (called "Schemes" in Scotland but here in the US we call them "Projects") working mostly with youth and women who are the hardest hit. They are looking at doing a 2 year stint. So taking things slowly as I move into this year now that I am a month behind already.Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.net'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J. February 2, 201313 yr Greg, when you have a daughterwith a non-woodworking husband your list is always long. Yesterday I started a computer/craft desk that will fit into a corner. My daughter gave me a line drawing that looked like a 1st grader drew it and I'm playing it by ear from there. Right now I have one side of the base temporarily clamped together. If it is worthy of a photo then I'll post one.Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
February 2, 201313 yr  First off, me needs a nap. Then MAYBE see about fixing two vehicles.   Maybe tomorrow or monday, back to a Cheap-ass Table.   Been debating about letting in a center stretcher between the front and back aprons.  Maybe a little hand tool work there? Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
February 3, 201313 yr Author Well I got up early this morning and made some progress. Got some glue spread on the edges of the pieces for the cutting boards. Then completed the glue up The got them all finished, here are three of them just waiting for me to scrap off the squeeze out. So all five are in the clamps and will get cut and ready for the other glue up for end grain tomorrow. Then it was off for some time with my mom. Took her out to Five Guys for a burger (I know I am a big spender). So how has your weekend gone so far? Have you made any progress? I also picked up some lumber. Pictures are in the other thread. February 3, 201313 yr Greetings AllCleaning up the friends yards, as over week ago our state got hit by monster weather front, heavy rain and mini cyclones. Our state got hit hard.We were on holiday, camping trip north of Brisbane, started to get wet, we kept eye on weather radar and it didn’t look good so we decided to leave earlier than what we had planned. As we found out, we left in last minute, trip which normally takes 5 hours to do, that evening took us nearly 9 hours. Roads were getting very wet. 2 days later the camping ground was about 12 meters under water, river broke its levies. Everything got flooded. In Brisbane, Brisbane River and few other river’s started to break their levies as well, friend’s houses got flooded. It has been big clean up here. I know my shed got minor flooding as well, roof has leaked but that is secondary issue. Need to help mates to clean up their houses 1st. No wood turning for a while.3 weeks ago we had record temps, over 42 Celsius days for days, bush fires everywhere, and week later we get hit by monster rain, no more fires, just flooding. Now we got big clean up going on.Life in Australia.Keep on turning, if not today, do it tomorrow.
