A Little Help Please...

Featured Replies

I recently bought a very large cast iron stove. It is labeled "Virginian" and I was told that it is about 30 years old. I know its not a piece of machinery, but it will play a vital role in my shop next winter. I am in the process of restoring it to its former glory and I got stumped. Can anyone recommend a type of paint that will stand up to 400 deg. tempertures? I am almost done getting the rust off and have fixed a few other pieces, I just need to get some black paint (enamel?) to get it looking brand new. Any advice would be appreciated.

Adam,

You can purchase HIGH Heat paint. This is usually at any home center. Hope this helps.

I didn't know that there was such a thing at the home center. I will check it out. Thanks.

Adam,

Believe it or not, but stove black is still available. It should be by the chimney pipe etc.

There is also high-temp paint that can be found at most auto parts stores for painting headers. It is supposedly good to 1200 degrees.

10-4! High temp paint works well! My dad did his stove about 5 years ago and it still looks great! Off the shelf in a spray can from Home Depot.

You might check the auto parts store. I think there is a high temperature paint used for car engines.

Do this Google search " best high heat stove paint" lots of information and products to explore.

Lewis was right, the auto supply should have some.  Paint for the headers on performance engines would work.
