April 4th - What wonderous things did you get finished over the weekend

Featured Replies

Finally a great weather weekend - maybe spring has sprung - now comes the pollen.

How did you fare in getting projects completed over this past weekend?  Of course, this includes "honey do" projects.

Along with a few honey does, I actually got a few things finished this past weekend.  Still waiting for a couple of folks to pick up custom orders of last week.  Here are pix of those finished items:

I'd Rather Be Fishing - this is one of those crazy 3D projects.  From front to back - sign is Walnut, bag and pole are from Spanish Cedar, cat tails are from maple, frame is 3/8" Red Oak, grass is from African Mahogany, fish is Maple, water and clouds are Poplar, sun is Aromatic Cedar and background is Oak plywood.  Measures about 14" wide.

ning-befishing1-14720-80.jpgThis is another look at 3D effect

ning-befishing2-14720-64.jpg

Semper Fi - This one is made entirely from 1/4" Baltic Birch Plywood.  Challenge here was making all the lines equal width.  Framed with 1/2" Outside corner.  Size about 14" width.

This one is called Strength, Beauty and Majesty - Another 3D thingy from South American Mahogany, Red Oak, Walnut, Spanish Cedar and Maple.  Measures about 16" width

All in all a good week - Soooooooooooooooooooo, how about y'all?

If it stays warm, they might get completed today!

Fred,

Really nice pieces. The 3D ones are intriguing. Beautiful work.

Lew,

That's going to be a sweet cradle. A little one is going to be very happy. So will Momma, I'll bet.

I got NOTHING finished. Oyster box is ready for the hinge. Made a walnut tray for it yesterday.

Looking really good there Lewis. I cant wait to see the finished product.

I really like how you made the pieces levitate....LOL! I kept trying to figure what the pieces were sitting on before it dawned on me they were strung up with string to dry. Getting older sucks sometimes!

Nice work there Fred. I really like the USMC emblem. Very clean!

Do you have a pattern? I have a co-worker that filled in for me when I was off for a month caring for my wife. He's a jar head and this would be just the thing for a thank you gift.

EAGLES MAY SOAR BUT WEASELS DON'T GET SUCKED INTO JET ENGINES!

It is the only means left to place anything. As you can see, there's NO bench space!!

Well I didn't get much done this weekend. I was setup on Friday night in downtown Florence for the First Friday show. I had a great show and lots of people coming by.

ning-firstfridaybooth-14733-30.jpg?widthning-firstfridaydisplay-14733-91.jpg?widQuite the contrast from last month when it got cancelled because of snow. It had rained all week but cleared our around noon and was a beautiful afternoon with the temps in the 60's. Lots of folks were just ready to get out of the house.

For me everything went well except one thing. There was a lady putting up one of those "Easy" up tents and having problems getting it to lock at the top position. So being the southern gentleman, I walked over and offered to assist her. When I pushed up on the latch to try to get it to lock in something in my right shoulder made a horrible sound and my arm went down to my side. I hurt all night and have been in pain with it all weekend. Went to the bone and joint doctor this morning and had x-rays. Didn't show anything so I am waiting on the call for a MRI now. If I hold my arm out 90 degrees at the elbow I can move it toward my stomach, but can't swing it the other way. Can't raise my arm up at all.

I am wondering if Allen and I can get a two for one discount?

I got to get this fixed, I have a lot of woodworking that needs to be done and no time for delays. But it is what it is.

I can honestly say that I really and truly feel for you brother.

Glad that you were able to get into the doctor so quickly and that they are working at getting you set up for an MRI. X-Rays will not show damage to the muscles or tendons so the MRI is the only way to go in this type of injury. I will be thinking and praying for you in all of this. As for a 2 for 1 discount, I will see if I can find a coupon for my orthopedic out at USC Medical as I have to see him on the 16th to consult for my next surgery which I hope will be able to get scheduled quickly.

Just to add insult to injury for me, a friend of mine from church just stopped by to drop off some 3"x3"x4' pieces of Mahogany. He works for a company that imports and distributes lumber from all over the world to commercial clients here in the USA for use in manufacturing of furniture and cabinetry. They get lumber by the box car loads and many times when it is shipped from foreign countries they use Mahogany as stickers in between the loads so that they can be fork lifted. They are typically just tossed in the dumpster but he just hated to see this Mahogany go to the landfill. Too bad I can't do any woodworking due to my bum shoulder.

The Dr. I am seeing was trained under Dr. Andrews of sports medicine fame. He has already worked on one of shoulders several years back. Just hoping I can get this going soon so we can get back to a schedule.

Been a while since I posted any work, or much for that matter. The Mrs. wanted a fireplace surround for a front porch for an electric insert we had. This is the outcome of it. ning-fireplace-14727-74.jpg?width=400I have always enjoyed looking at what everyone else has been doing. I am happy to see everyone has been doing great work as always.

Nice setup Greg, glad you had a good show also. I have a real attraction to eating so it is good to keep that going.
