August's Featured Member of the Month is Announced!

Featured Replies

Well here we are again folks!!! I cannot believe how fast this year is rolling by. Next thing you know we are going to be sitting down at the Thanksgiving Dinner table shortly here!!!

Well we have our August Featured Member of the Month, and we are so pleased with who we came up with!

ning-712125921-10788-5.jpeg?xgip=161%3A0We have a member who joined us on December 12th 2012, he is relatively new to our site and since he has joined he has posted some great questions regarding the art/trade of woodworking and the tools that are used. He has shown some great progress in his work and he loves to share his work with us here on TPW. He is always willing to jump in and give his advice, and he is not too proud to admit that like many of us here, he needs help and he loves helping others with his own knowledge of the art. That is what we love to see here on The Patriot Woodworker, folks who are not afraid to ask, and folks who are there to help.

Our Featured Member of the Month Ron England is also a Retired Sailor and in his retirement, he has focused on woodworking and making items for his own home, and most recently he did a wonderful repair and refinish job of his grand-dad's single shot 22 cal. rifle as seen here.

Ron had a broken stock, and he had to glue it back together, and make it look good, he brought back a bit of family history in operable condition. And we hope you've had a chance to plink a few cans with that bit of restored family history Ron!

Not only does Ron enjoy repairing family heirlooms but as you can tell by his craftiness in signs and plaques, he is still a NAVY man at heart!!!! You can take the sailor out of the NAVY, but you can't take the NAVY out of the sailor!!!!!

And Ron does all this in his 10x12 shop that he calls home on occasion. Note the NAVY sign hanging on the door!

Ron is receiving the honor this month because he epitomizes the feel and direction we like to see our site go in, we love to have folks join up, jump in, and participate as Ron has. There are no ego's with Ron, as there has not been with any of our members, we are all here to learn from each other, help each other, and help us get to that next level of woodworking we would like to attain, and Ron has been moving in that direction since the day he joined just just 8 months ago. Thank you Ron for being here, we are glad you have decided to call us home. If anyone would like to visit Ron's shop you can click on his image above, and you will be taken to his page, where he has some photos of the inside of that ol shop pictured above!

And,

151125.jpg?width=200To reward Ron for his efforts here on The Patriot Woodworker, Woodcraft is proud to present Ron with this beautiful WoodRiver Low Angle Block Plane w/Adjustable Mouth that we hope may spur Ron in another direction in his woodworking endeavor's, to start getting some hand tools in that wonderful shop of his!

We noticed in some images of Ron's shop that he seems to be outfitting himself with some pretty nice power tools, but we did not see many hand tools in that ol shop of his, so we thought this would be a fitting start to what we hope brings years of enjoyment to collecting hand tools to compliment his powered shop.

Even powered shops need a block plane to flush those dovetails, or smooth those doweled joints. And this low angled block plane by WoodRiver will tame the trickiest of grains.

We would like to end this with our thanks to Ron for being a wonderful member of our site here at The Patriot Woodworker, and we'd love to recognize Woodcraft Supply for standing by us during the last couple of years in the form of sponsorship and moral support and frequently, donations to great causes like our Featured Member of the Month Project here on TPW.

Please visit Woodcraft Supply for your next woodworking supply and tooling purchases, when you purchase from Woodcraft you are supporting a retailer who supports us, and most importantly, they are ardent supporters of our military active duty and veterans. Thank you Woodcraft for all you do!!

woodcraft-logo-home.gifOh Yes, and Ron, please PM me with your address so we can get this wonderful block plane out to you asap!!!!

And congratulations Ron England!!!!!
