March 7, 201412 yr Thank goodness it is in the mid 60's here today, beautiful blue sky and not a cloud in site. First Friday starts tonight and will run the first Friday of each month till December. I have been in a bit of a push, but what else is new, to get things ready. Alas I have the boards done and ready to go. This is the last group I finished up Wednesday and put another coat of mineral oil on last night. I have another set that was completed a few weeks ago so I am ready to start. Still working on the Cherry Chest. I got the moldings made and ready to attach and put stain on this baby. This was after the first run through the router with the curved router bit. I just realized I didn't take a picture and the next two steps. I ran it through again with a round nose bit and took off the sharp edge on the left and then used a 1/2" round over on the top edge to give it a little more curve on the top. I will get another picture and post later showing the end of the trim. Here it is while I am checking the fit and look on the chest. You can probable see in the bottom trim the more round transition. So I will be finishing it out with stain and varnish this weekend and shipping it out next Friday. How about you, what is on Your Patriot Woodworking Agenda this weekend? Please share you project with us and post some pictures here so we can see and learn about what you are working on. We love to see those project in progress pictures as it helps many learn the steps and see that they too can make a piece once they see how it is done. So don't wait any longer, please post those projects and pictures so we can all share and brag on your work.
March 7, 201412 yr Monday, I'll be putting the trim on a cabinet job that I've been on for the past week or so. All the trim is stained and finished just waiting for a date with the pin nailer.
March 7, 201412 yr Ron, I dated a pin nailer once. What an air head. I'll be working on a very small ring box.
March 7, 201412 yr ROAD TRIP!!! Checked out a few places for any rustiness. One place was closed, a second too far from the parking spot to walk ( whew!) and the third??? Well this was just sitting there, looking neglected, price WAS $15. Got a small discount ( for an Old Fart??) Seemed to have been lathered in varnish, too. Missing the iron/cutter, though. Adjustments are made with wedges. Will be set to the center of a 3/4 board width. Then away we go. Did see some braces, most of them were missing a part of one or the other handles. Might have been a might uncomfortable to use.... Did stop at a few "normal stores" since the other half was along. Picked up a screwdriver so I could replace the High Mount Brake Light bulb. Just the start of the Rust Hunt Season.....
March 8, 201412 yr At s least you were able to get a date Gene.she kept blowing me of when I asked. That chest looks good John. I assume it's kept you busy for a few hours.
March 8, 201412 yr Still working on the bunk beds. Got lots of mortises, tenons and dados finished- The ends two ends are starting to come together-
March 8, 201412 yr I'm already planning what to build next week and I've 2 more days of sales. its a good thing I have 15 cutting boards, and a half dozen bread trays in-process. hopefully I've learned my lesson and this year we'll stay ahead with inventory. or even better we'll make more and sell all of it
March 8, 201412 yr John, Please post pics of the finished chest. It looks huge. I'll bet it will be absolutely gorgeous! Steven, does a wooden plane with no blade really qualify as a rust hunt find? Good eye, though. Nice buy. That BB is going to be a beauty, Lew. Nice work. Good luck, John H. It's tough to anticipate. The buying public is fickle. Hope you do well. Ron, she was sharp, indeed. Heck of a rack, too. But, she couldn't stand the pressure.
March 8, 201412 yr Gene: the two piece skate is steel, and VERY RUSTY, indeed. I think I got a Senior Discount on it, too. Off to find a long 1/4" chisel, to make into an iron, sans rust, of course...
March 8, 201412 yr Steven, I tried to get a senior discount when I bought that 1/2 of a Sargent at a flea market. The gal said I had to be older than the plane to qualify. I told her I had a lot old of rusty parts. She said "never mind" and dropped the price.
