Inlaid Rose

Featured Replies

It is supposed to be 73 here today, so after an hour or so finishing up my taxes, I will reward myself with some shop time!
Currently working on a book on making Inlay Medallions. Tried a dyed rose last week. Not a bad first attempt, but somehow lost a few parts in the dying process!

Never tried dying inlay so keep us posted on your progress. BTW, shop time is always a good reward. Shop time with ice cream is heaven on earth.

Very cool. Something I have never done, so I am interested in see how you do this.

I got the new rose cut out today. This time I added brown paper to the back of the veneers. This prevented the small parts from splitting and was quite a help.

The photo shows the parts assembled but obviously not attached to anything.

This afternoon I dyed the stem parts green and the petals red. I hope to get them hot sand shaded this weekend before gluing it all up.

Today I sand shaded the stained parts and dry fit everything. Tomorrow I'll glue it all up.

Ralph, round two is looking up! Are you self teaching yourself?

John, yes I am. I am compiling this info for a book I will publish through Amazon's Create Space.

I did this before with my book "Sand Shading", which shows how I 'rediscovered' the process of using hot sand for shading veneers.

That is so cool Ralph, congratulations on the new book too!!!! I admire a writer, such patience it takes! Thanks Ralph.
