Turned a bunch of simple Christmas ornaments for the local club's event where they have little kids paint them and take them home.

Headed to my sister's house tomorrow to install a range hood in a kitchen that was never built to accept one. Truck is loaded with tools but I'm sure I will have forgotten at least one important one. The only good thing is this hood doesn't get vented to the outside so no duct work is involved.

Monday? Shop was closed on Mondays....cleaned up a couple hand planes, is all I worked on...

May have to mow the yard, tomorrow...before it turns into a Hay Field...

How does one sharpen one of these?

Recently I went to my daughter's apartment to feed her cats while she was out of town. I notices a very cluttered corner between the dining area and kitchen where she couldn't open a kitchen cabinet without moving a bunch of stuff.

So this weekend dad built a 3 shelf stand to give her a better storage option.

It was all built completely from curb found components. I think I have mentioned before what a cheap son-of-a-gun I am. 🤪

You could use a slipstone to hone the edges,

You run the plane on a piece of mdf to get the profile shape. Then coat it with some honing compound. Here's one of mine:

so yesterday morning, i go to my pastor's house to help move 37 boxes of donated books, since i have a big old truck.

he invites me inside to show me his dining room chairs. lighter brown, danish modern style, cane back insert, upholstered seats....but many of them have loose joints. on some it is evident that someone in the past had tried to reglue them with Gorilla glue, but it had not worked (still loose). one had a metal angle bracket on the underside that was helping, a few had evidence of dowels being inserted to help the joint.

i explained that to properly fix them, you'd really want to take them apart, properly redo the joinery, and also re-cane some of the seat backs. but doing that would destroy the chairs, so that was not an option. so later, it's either metal brackets, or perhaps some Miller dowels (stepped dowels).

i told him i don't make chairs, they are way too complex for my skills. but new ones cost $200-$500 each. ouch. i can see why.

hate having to bandaid poorly executed work, but it's the only option available.

if you get one of these stones you can use the small side for seam rippers, too. if you can find one of these it might work, too.

That one looks way out of wack. I’d reprofile the iron. Advance it forward just far enough that the most worn point on the iron is just above flush with the surface of the plane. Use an appropriate slip stone to bring the whole cutting edge of the iron flush with the sole of the plane so it matches the profile of the plane. Just run the stone across the cutting edge until the sole of the plane stops it from cutting anymore. I put a strip of tape on the sole to protect it from the stone. Once that’s done you can remove the iron and re bevel it right up to the new profiled edge.
