So glad to see you gettin some time in, and your project looks like it turned out pretty good!" So not really sure quite where to post this, but most of the work was done of the Shopsmith. When my Mom passed, and the estate was settled, I had an inheritance. I kept some money for a work shop, spent their rest of the money on adult stuff like refinancing, new HVAC, bathroom remodel, and the like. Did some reading and (for me) a lot of thinking. Small basement in a townhouse so a Shopsmith. Got most of the attachments, still haven’t used a lot of them. (Lack of need/knowledge). So a friend asked me to make a better version of this 3/16 CNC cutout, cash box. Took the I-Box jig (different model for a Shopsmith) out of the box, assembled it, and read how to use it. Made a couple of small mistakes, but can still count to 10, and the mistake wasn’t bad enough to have to make new parts. Also used the Dewalt planer for the first time. I may get to be a passable woodworker yet (trying to anyways LOL)..
April 5Apr 5 Author Popular Post My friend bought this snap together cash box. The front part is the piece that has the opening for putting the cash in. There’s a top piece which has a numerical schedule with a transparent plastic cover. Comes with a marker. You mark off the money on the schedule as you put it in, and when the box is full, supposedly you have $10K. I’m gonna mount the schedule part on top of the box I’m making. I think you put rubber bands around the box he bought to stop it from coming apart as you put cash in it. I’m thinking of using magnets to hold my door in place, this is why I went with 3/4 stock. So with no plans I’m figgering this out as I’m doing it. The actual space inside my box is gonna be like 1/8 x 2.5 inches larger, so no issues there. The box joints came out okay for the first time. My mistake was when I did the test cut (visible on the rear board there for clamping purposes) it was longer than ideal. So I made the adjustment on blade height, BUT idiot that I am, I did NOT move the sacrificial back plate to get a fresh shorter cut. I got tear out on the backside of the finger joints. I swapped them so the tear outs (fairly small) are on the inside of the box. Going to the M-I-L’s tomorrow for dinner, and to add a double duplex receptacle in her living room, by her chair. If there’s time when I get home gonna take the clamps off and sand down the finger joints. Edited April 5Apr 5 by Artie spelling error

Following the progress along.Thank you, yeah woodworking wise ( and maybe otherwise) been in a funk for some time now. REALLY had a good time the past two days. Trying to get magnets that fit in the 3/4, but still strong enough that the door won’t come off too easily. Also not that easy to find countersunk washers/strike plates for the magnets.
April 5Apr 5 Popular Post Good to see you back in the shop. Rockler may have the magnets you are looking for. Danl
April 5Apr 5 Popular Post looking good if you really want the lid to (stick) stay put a magnet on both surfaces, lid and base, just remember opposites attract and turn your magnets the right way. Don't ask, yes i did ☹️

Don't ask, yes i did ☹️That’s turning into one of my problems, can’t find two countersunk magnets that attract, they’re repelling. Still got time. Might use barrel hinges and only magnet one side. Gonna test that out this week.

April 5Apr 5 Author Popular Post So this is all the parts sitting in the finished position, to show what the end product hopefully looks like.
April 6Apr 6 Author Popular Post I’ve been in a funk for a while, felt really great to be down there and working. I hope you know I’m only a phone call away! (I can even be quiet if needed.)
April 20Apr 20 Author Popular Post So I went with General Finishes Dark Chocolate milk paint. I can’t explain why I like their milk paints so much, other than I think it looks really good. The instructions say it doesn’t need a top coat, and I was undecided. So I painted a scrap piece, with 2 coats of the milk paint, and then put on a coat of GF high gloss finish. I REALLY liked it, so first coat on the project just got finished. Now if the Bruins can bring home the W, it will have been a very good weekend!
April 21Apr 21 Popular Post How the heck did I miss this one! Artie, so good to see you back in the shop and putting those tools to good use, I know exactly how you feel as far as being in a woodworking funk, I've been there for a few years since my day job became overwhelming and elder parents at their end stage, and every little extra responsibility added in life seemed like the world was ending to me. So it was hard to fit my beloved woodworking into the mix. Keep at it my friend, I am so happy you are making some sawdust, and you still have all your fingers!
