This is going to be my next project of scroll sawing/carving. I want to make a couple of these but first. have to figure out how the support rod attaches to the back of the heart(s). About 6" tall and 4 1/2" wide.

My blanks are cut out. I had trouble with mt Craftsman jig saw and will have to do some cleanup, on the insides, with gouges.

Is it just me or are the hearts in the original slanted, with the bottom further out than the top. If that is the case then you could use something like a pocket hole (that doesn't go all the way though) and a matching taper cut into the dowel.

My thought exactly. Tomorrow I'll figure out a way to drill that pocket hole at a correct angle. on the back of the hearts.

Drill press + Forstner bit :)

Apparently I fell asleep at the wheel; missed this. Very cool project. Looking forward to following along. Thanks in advance for sharing the journey.

Pocket holes drilled! I was worried about the drill bit moving from the center portion of where I wanted to drill it. My machinist vice provided me with the perfect solution.

he almost-twins are just about ready to head downstairs for some finishing. I'm thinking a little bit of gilding is called for?

Project completed. I didn't want the finish to be too perfect nor did I want to add patina to them. They'll age in place.
