February 5Feb 5 Popular Post My granddaughter will be having a birthday soon and I wanted to make something simple. I do not recall making a box, so I made what I call a pencil box. The walnut is made from repurposed wood which has a few small nail holes. They can easily be overlooked and give the opportunity to tell a story. The hard maple CNC lettering was done by a good friend. The box was finished with (1) coat BLO, (1) coat dewaxed shellac, and (4) coats satin lacquer. The other box is made from poplar wood and has (4) coats of satin lacquer. This box was to be my jig set-up box, but I believe I will use it for something. I have other projects in-work that I need to complete before I can get to do fine woodworking. Thanks for looking. Danl
February 5Feb 5 That is gorgeous! Love that design, too! If I remember correctly, before electricity that same design was used as a “candle box”. And no, that’s not from personal experience 😄
February 5Feb 5 Very work nice Danl! I like your wood selection and joinery. For sure she'll be pleased and treasure it. I've made pencil boxes for my grandchildren as well. They love them. Edited February 5Feb 5 by MrRick
