November 12, 2025Nov 12 Popular Post Found this site a time back and have been following (and enjoying) ever since and thought it was about time to introduce myself. I am a self taught woodworker of about 25 years that fell down that slope called wood turning about 15years ago and never looked back. I retired about 5 years ago and am finally able to spend less time in the shop than i would like. Guess I've about said enough for now so thanks for this site and the opportunity to learn and share.
November 12, 2025Nov 12 Welcome!!!! Check out our weekly Wednesday’s Wisdom For Woodturners post! We would love to see your work and suggestions for our forum.

Glad you did Rusty. Welcome to The Patriot Woodworker. A truly great place to share, learn and help one another. Great to have you on-board. Looking forward to your on-going participation with us. We have some extremely talented and creative turners here.
November 13, 2025Nov 13 Author Lew; where to start, when it comes to this digital stuff you're going to be teaching a 74 year old baby, what i know could fit on a grain of sand, fine sand:)
November 13, 2025Nov 13 Not a problem if you don't mind learning from an 80 year old! Are you using a computer (PC or MAC) or a phone (iPhone or Android)

I'll borrow my wife's phone and work up some instructions for you. My phone is an iPhone and it's not too difficult but I want to be sure I'm giving you the correct information.
November 14, 2025Nov 14 @Rusty S OK, here you go. Wife's phone is a Moto G6 android but this should work. Navigate to the Patriot sight with your phone browser and log in. Touch the 3 vertical dots. Scroll down to locate the Forums. Touch to select. For this example I will use the Woodturning Forum. Scroll down to the Sub-Forum where you want to post and select it When selected look for the Blue Button for "Start New Topic" and touch it Fill in the title, add tags and type your content. At the bottom of the window, where you add your post content you will see an area where you can add files and the type of files that are allowed. Most of use use JEPG files but others are permitted. When you touch the add files button, a window should open asking permission to access the files OR ask you where the files are stored on your phone Navigate to the phone location where you store your photos and select the one (s) you want to add to your post. You can add more than one photo now and then add them into the post at the cursor location (s) later Once selected, they will populate the window called "Uploaded Images" To add the image to your post content, place the cursor at the point where the image is to be located then scroll down to see the Uploaded Images area. Touch the blue INSERT control. The image should now appear in the post content. If you accidently put it in the wrong location, it can be deleted in the post but remains in the uploaded images so you can reuse it. Hope this helps. Let me know it you need more

December 22, 2025Dec 22 It’s interesting how many people shift from flat work to turning later in their journey, probably because the grain orientation logic is so different. I’ve been running a DeWalt planer for my stock prep lately and it handles the figured wood pretty well if the blades are fresh. Since you've been at it for 25 years, I’d be curious to hear your take on how modern lathe speeds compare to the older belt-driven setups you likely started on.
