November 10, 2025Nov 10 Popular Post With saddness, Mike has passed away on November 8th, 2025. He was an Intarsia great, and a good man, Mike was always a pleasure to have on board here at The Patriot Woodworker and I loved it when he'd come on over and share his latest works, I will miss his artwork, and his presence here on The Patriot Woodworker. RIP Mike! From Mike's son. It's with deep sorrow that I am sharing the loss of the greatest man I've ever known, my father, Mike Mathieu. Many of you know or have had the pleasure of meeting my Dad, and have seen his stunning works of art, called intarsia. He was a master woodworker and creative genius, and his love for woodworking was dwarfed only by his love for his family, who all miss him dearly today, on his day of passing. Back in April, we got the devastating news that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 bile duct cancer, and without treatment, they gave him just 2 months to live. The last 7 months have been a rollercoaster of chemotherapy and other treatments, but ultimately, the cancer couldn't be contained. He died at 4am today at home with his wife of 50 years by his side, holding his hand and wishing him well on his next journey. We're truly heartbroken, but find comfort knowing that he's looking down on us and smiling from a better place (where he's probably cranking some Deep Purple on a vintage 4-channel stereo with a coffee mug of Chardonnay and a bowl of homegrown, while cursing Trump's idiocracy). Rest in Peace, Dad, we love you so much Mikes Page https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/profile/2931-intarsia-mike Mikes Album Mikes Recent Topics

January 24Jan 24 I didn't know Mike well. Intarsia leaves me flat, but I still mourn the loss of an artisan of the scroll saw.🙁
