Segment ring sled

I have made a few segmented bowls in the past. I never cared for a 3/4” thick ring. A friend of mine showed me a sled he made that will allow you to cut rings any thickness you want. I just took some 7/8” thick rings and cut them in half. Then I sanded them to 3/8” thick on my drum sander. It is a game changer. It also works great for resawing a solid board but you are limited to length.

Rusty, is there something holding the workpiece to the sled? Maybe the sled is just a tall fence?

Cool sled. I really like the ruler idea. I wish I has more than 6" resaw capabilities.

I stick it to the sled with double sided sticky tape.

The piece in the picture is 8” by 16” hard maple. I resawed it in half.

Nice sled!

I have one quite similar from an old Wood plan.

Thanks for sharing Rusty.
