Ok,,teasers are done, for now..been posting snippets for a few days...

so..

OCT2025Proj.Ashparts.jpg.7ee153d03620be836aa9d03777b3f2b9.jpg

Had a lot of leftover Ash from the tool chest project...did a lot of resaw work on the leftover scraps...removing bad spots and other junky stuff...settled on working with 1/2" thick parts...

OCT2025Proj.Maple.jpg.ab71598a7c0767cf80b56b1add87a795.jpg

There was also a wee bit of maple....one bit of Ash provided enough to glue up a panel..

OCT2025Proj.addedpiece.jpg.0325c9d3e4042dd09177e46b59aa6fd3.jpg

Wasn't quite as wide as I wanted, so, I added a piece..tried to align the grain across (up?) the panel on all 4 pieces...

There was enough "Good" parts..

OCT2025Proj.4sidesmilled.jpg.eeff187605dc2fde32db0dab97457b8c.jpg

To give me 2 ends and 2 sides for a box...

Needed to clean off the bench..

OCT2025Proj.Joineryworkareacleared.jpg.4e3f131bfa93fb1623ad2acfc87f0056.jpg

Then, when the panel came out of the clamps..

OCT2025Proj.lidworkjackplanetoflatten.jpg.89b816b7dd702a6dc08fe4ee29e6dd29.jpg

A Jack plane to flatten both faces, then..

OCT2025Proj.lidworksmootherworking.jpg.b7190af17a984bc8e6619f2ecb2efea9.jpg

A No. 704 smoother to finish leveling the lid...checking for high spots, too...

OCT2025Proj.lidworkcheckforflat.jpg.12177a7e816fa6956d76f736ebd5b12e.jpg

Then, I used a side and one of the ends..

OCT2025Proj.lidworklayouts.jpg.fb402128764e1bf8f256e08f0f4554ef.jpg

Needed to square the ends of the panel, cut the 2 sides to length, and lay out for a finger lift on the front edge of the lid, and bandsaw it..

OCT2025Proj.lidworkpartsisparts.jpg.98beeb7fa5ab183a8bcc7a972b29fb7a.jpg

Which left Part 2...Joinery...

Stay tuned...

No scrap left behind. I'm a groupie follower.

Before the joinery could begin...all 4 side pieces needed to be a wee bit flatter..

OCT2025Proj.Joineryfrontplaned.jpg.c5d40a228a3cfd34f84e632c876535f9.jpg

Front and...

OCT2025Proj.Joinerybackplanedflat.jpg.ed94641867dcde16020bafbac93cc841.jpg

Back were leveled on both faces as needed...then, adjust the "Jig" a bit...

OCT2025Proj.Joinerysmoothplaneside.jpg.95d65303c49d1bfef6f06cdf61ad90f9.jpg

And do both of the ends..both faces...

OCT2025Proj.Joineryallsharpenedup.jpg.31700c0187bff647c7ee1a1ed2b291a1.jpg

Get everything sharpened up and ready to go...That chisel sets the spacing of the fingers..

OCT2025Proj.Joineryfingerslaidout.jpg.cc71548a65b0d2a6e99e55de54757cf7.jpg

This is the back of the box...1st corner...then a bit of work with a saw..

OCT2025Proj.Joinerysawwork.jpg.32ea1b84e407ba7e3145edfaa90af860.jpg

Then a bit of work with that chisel...

OCT2025Proj.Joineryhalfchopped.jpg.d80df442915b553330a76d493197b944.jpg

Chop halfway down on the show face, then...

OCT2025Proj.Joineryfullychoppedout.jpg.5d3220aefbd78e8549ff506292457446.jpg

Remove the rest from the Inside face...use these fingers to lay out the matching set...saw and chop, then a dry fit..

OCT2025Proj.Joinery1stdryfit.jpg.0ed1046282604906dfb83cdc296772ae.jpg

Stopped here for a day....then, while on Laundry Detail..

OCT2025Proj.DryFittools.jpg.f39c7165d992dc60e9775a55e7fd488d.jpg

Get the rest of the corners milled, enough to do a dry fit...with clamps

So..clear some space...

OCT2025Proj.Glue-upclambefore.jpg.7b915ed76dcf38273a51e76fa8cf2921.jpg

Lay all 4 sides out, in order...the a Flash Mob of Clamps followed the bottle of glue to the bench..

OCT2025Proj.Glue-upflash-mobclamps.jpg.6cbb497dd542a3f34f36e5cce016d49e.jpg

1 x2 scrap of pine to keep the long sides from bowing in....let this sit a day..or 2..

Next episode?  "Hey, yer slip is showing.."

Stay tuned...

Looks like a busy day today

Hey, yer slip is showing!

OCT2025Proj.Glue-upslipslaidout.jpg.df461d4059bca6b02b9fcd9b31d9b495.jpg

Those wood strips...one needs ripped to width...and all 3 need to be mitered on the ends...1 x 2 can be used later as a caul..

OCT2025Proj.SlipsMitersaw.jpg.e293f96e67e543693d2aaa69754f1d69.jpg

14" Mitersaw, anyone?

OCT2025Proj.SlipsMillersFallsBox.jpg.36bf47877e8c3712ca141763863bff8f.jpg

Not sure if these are still made..

OCT2025Proj.Slipsgluedandclamped.jpg.81f85cceab85235cfae5117dc26a0b9a.jpg

Mitered corners, glued and clamped into place, let sit a spell..

There is a sheet of 1/4" plywood sitting there...I traced around the inside of the box...and then cut the panel to size..

OCT2025Proj.Bottomattachedslips.jpg.37f01716cceb36e5a7ed5782dda4ba73.jpg

And "dropped the panel down inside, with a bead of glue, a few clamps...

OCT2025Proj.Bottomattachedcauls.jpg.7600e9d7e53b696b54c2f5d5e92a258f.jpg

Clamps are pressing down on a few Pine Cauls...spreads out the pressure a bit better, that way.

OCT2025Proj.DryFitlid.jpg.26cc805c06f821bc5a2ff7086b417b2d.jpg

Next episode will be about attaching the lid to the box....yeah...always a fight when it involves me and a pair of hinges..

Stay tuned...

Hmmm...since this is a Monday...about the only thing that will get down today, will be a coat of Witch's Brew Stain...

Yesterday?   Task was to install a pair of these...things...

OCT2025Proj.HingesTrimtodaystask.jpg.62cc576b75c7d63514a4f73bb61518e0.jpg

Narrow section to sit atop the edge of the box, in a shallow Mortise,,,,the WIDE section gets attached to the underside of the lid...sounds easy enough, right?

OCT2025Proj.HingesTrimChiselwork.jpg.27a04386f431011b5af86e613bf9e049.jpg

One mortise done..then..

OCT2025Proj.HingesTrimhalfwaydone.jpg.078f69e45a85582ee6d85f2871911024.jpg

A second one gets done did...Tools are piling up on the bench...because to install the screws..

OCT2025Proj.Hingestrimforscale.jpg.497ad743c9b45c16ca28adcf07824498.jpg

That No. 2 Pencil is for scale....and that Brass one is too big...

I need to drill a Pilot hole first..

OCT2025Proj.HingesTrimpilotholedrillbit.jpg.423c596b6e79838ee250bccb63fc825b.jpg

That eggbeater drill..and this little drill bit,,,that was almost too large...eggbeater was sold at Sears, back in the day..

OCT2025Proj.HingesTrimDunlapdrill.jpg.1fb8edaf2db6f64a06c1b4024f8b3568.jpg

Dunlap....house brand for Sears...NOT Dunlop, that is a brand for a tire...

Yellow handle?

OCT2025Proj.HingesTrimNo.0driver.jpg.1956095b1d0f6c1c0126f6772163f5cc.jpg

Methinks that is a No. 0 Phillip's screwdriver tip...

Hinges are installed box is clamped up in the vise..

OCT2025Proj.HingesTrimbrasscornersinstalled.jpg.03cade434b201d20b737b830ab613f08.jpg

And a brass corner piece is added to the bottom edge of the box..all 4 corners..

next task?  will be a final sanding, and then a coat of Witch's Brew Stain....brush on, wipe off....and allow to dry for a day....

Stay tuned...

OCT2025Proj.Finalehingeside.jpg.5a9a78a4ac6c1794316c0228e9951374.jpg

And...

OCT2025Proj.Finalebackofcase.jpg.4ce7ef07a2a62cb3624fea131cc35826.jpg

Will need a couple slots to hang this case up with..

OCT2025Proj.Finaleinsideview.jpg.e324261f06e60b6aa4f8a16d4e715db4.jpg

Maybe cobble up some sort of shelves for the inside...so maybe all the pills I take every morning have a better place to sit..and..

OCT2025Proj.Finalestandingup.jpg.d636bf949ea10231ceaf2a5d07c7a0d9.jpg

I can shut and latch the door...
