If a verified and referenced answer is not arrived at by the end of each month's "What's It" project, a random draw will be performed for a "One Year MWTCA Club Membership". Only Patriot Woodworker's who participate in this "What's It" topic will be included in the random draw. Additional What's It Rules Unless you are completely sure what this item is, please avoid "definitive statements" that appear that you are without a doubt claiming that you know what the item is. For example stating, "this item is called a "widget xx" used for "insert purpose here". If you are making a definitive statement you must accompany your statement with evidence or proof from a secondary source. An example of acceptable statements within the realm of having fun and educated guesses would be something like this, "I believe it could be", or "It appears it's made for this or that", etc etc etc... Mystery Machine Image Credit TATHS I found this What's It at TATHS website, a wonderful website for the tool fanatics, MWTCA is running short on What's It's so we are resorting to other resources, thanks TATHS!

July 28, 2025Jul 28 Steve,it does look like an indexing unit of some sort and there is something missing. The small cog between the crank wheel and the pintle is focal to the machine. The pintle wheel keeps it from reversing.
July 28, 2025Jul 28 Maybe feeding a Molder Machine......Mortising Machine.....Drill Press... 2 "Capacitors"..might be solenoids, as there is an electrical junction box below them....

July 28, 2025Jul 28 Author See those grabbers, they were pulling or pushing something, could this have been the drivetrain for a conveyor system?
July 28, 2025Jul 28 Author Is this a push pull type of handle? Like to engage and disengage the movement?
July 28, 2025Jul 28 Trace that spring down under...where it connects to the levers that are operated by the 2 solenoids..Solenoids seemed to be connected to the large gear...maybe to advance the product going through? Methinks that the "crank" handle is more to "Start or reverse" ...maybe to "reload" the machine...
July 28, 2025Jul 28 Steve, I see your logic and don’t disagree. If the crank is for start or reverse then you would have to be able to disengage it.
July 28, 2025Jul 28 That cogged wheel in the middle...perhaps a drive belt to fit around it...and this is just the "Transmission? With the clevis Morris pointed out as the gear shifter...or else a link to another machine?

With the clevis Morris pointed out as the gear shifter...or else a link to another machine? I don’t think that is a drive wheel unless it is a link belt because it is captured by the bearings. No easy way to replace it. To John’s point, that center cog may be the focal point of the machine.
July 29, 2025Jul 29 Guys, look right next to the indexing pintle…. There’s smaller, finer toothed pintle there. I would pay good money to look under it.
