July 6, 20251 yr Popular Post I have been meaning to build a storage unit for under the lathe for some time. I got the delivery of the maple for the closets so I decided to use some of it to build the storage unit. It’s a simple 6 drawer chest. I assembled the carcass today and milled up the drawer stock. July 7, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Today it was 104 here in Vegas so I stayed in the shop most of the day. I managed to get the drawer stock mortised and two drawers assembled. I love working with maple, it’s so stable. But I’m afraid that can’t be said about plywood these days. I avoid using any plywood at all because it is so unstable that it’s impossible to get plywood that doesn’t potato chip after it gets to the shop. The one place I still use it is for drawer bottoms but when it goes wonky it makes drawer assembly a nightmare. Years past it was easy to get plywood that was really stable. Apparently they were forced to change the glues they use which makes the plywood warp. Progress. Paul
July 7, 20251 yr Popular Post I had built cabinets for under lathes . Finally gave up and stacked them behind me as to much dust in drawers. This is three sets of drawers built for specific lathes.
July 9, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Finished the tool chest. I used the ceramic finish again. I really like the ceramic finish. Dries in 15 minutes and very hard finish. Paul
