Popular Post kmealy Posted June 30 Popular Post Report Posted June 30 (edited) Someone asked a question, "Why are my cuts smoking and turning the wood black?" Of the 200 answers many said, "Buy a left handed blade." Others said to switch the plug around to make the motor run backwards. Einstein said the difference between genius and stupidity is genius is limited. Maybe it's time for some people to take up a new hobby. Grandpadave52 Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 Over the weekend, changed the oil/ filter and serviced my car. Now I need to get it to the tire shop for TPMS sensor in the RR tire. It's been acting wonky the past couple week. Kept showing either nothing or 35 psi no matter how much air was in the tire. Always something. Hated to do so on a Sunday afternoon, but with the never ending daily rain, I cultivated the corn again plus hand pulled lots of weeds elsewhere. Mrs. and grandaughter helped. I also tilled the smaller cucumber and melon patch while Mrs and granddaughter picked another 1 gallon bucket of blackberries. Early sweetcorn has started tasseling; we also harvested our first couple zucchini; more blackberry picking Tuesday evening. Out early today, at least for me, for a doctor's appointment. Still trying to resolve either ongoing balance problems from the stroke(s) or possible vertigo. She's referred me to specialists. Never ending mowing is on the docket yet again. As of tonight, I'll be picking up some auction items Thursday and since I have to pass by the "doughnut factory" twice, I might as well stop in for a tour and see about samples. Also tonight, sampled a fresh made blackberry cobbler at the request of my wife. I didn't want to disappoint her, so I did my duty. Gerald, Fred W. Hargis Jr, Larry Buskirk and 1 other 4 Quote

kmealy Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 Meeting tonight over next set construction. I asked some questions about dimensions and some of them got changed. My comment was it is a lot easier to make a change on paper than on wood. This morning I went to a shop that the auction company and children invited us to clean out what was left. Hundreds of little drawers of screws and other hardware. The furniture bank and woodworking club can use some of it, but having 8 drawers of brass screws containing about 8 screws each is not very practical. Gerald Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 Another afternoon shower interupted my power washing job . Did get the front walks and gutter cleaned. Afternoon working on packing some wood and small stuff in the shop. Of note I had an experiment going on wood preservation. Used a 55 gallon barrel filled with water. Places woodturning blank size pieces of Pin Oak and Cherry in this. Not sure how many years it has been but more than 2 and less than 5. I did not change the water and it was a bit slimy and at times smelled like a pig pen. The logs were covered in a black slime and came out stained. I did not cut any as my shop is full of wood, but I think they look better than when I put them in the barrel. I have turned some of the cherry and turned like geen wood. There were no cracks in the wood. Fred W. Hargis Jr, Grandpadave52, HandyDan and 1 other 4 Quote

When I left the corporate world and became a sole proprietor, people asked if I missed corporate life. My response was always, "Not the meetings." They always lasted too long, and often were a waste of time. Same was true of the meeting last night. Meetings, in my mind, are to make decisions and assignments. Not just passing out information or "what I've done recently" status report that are much easier handled by messages/reports/etc. Larry Buskirk and Grandpadave52 2 Quote

I lived in the world of the auto industry where decisions have to be fast and correct because profit is king. Government wants everyone to be heard regardless. Maddening. Harry Brink, Gerald, Fred W.
