May 30, 20251 yr I bought a used Lathe that came with an easy wood chuck, my question is what other set of jaws would be good to have that would give the most options? Thank you, Tony
May 30, 20251 yr Welcome Tony! I'm kind of a newbie myself but wait some of the experienced guys will be along with some good suggestions. I'm a little envious of your chuck, those are really nice.
May 30, 20251 yr Welcome, Tony! You are starting out with the best chuck on the market (IMHO). Depending on the type of turning will do (bowl, spindle, hollowing), will partly determine the selection of jaws. I personally use the 1 3/8" CJ125 and the 2 3/8" CJ150 jaws the most. I find the Cole jaws (Big Easy Jaws) very helpful for finishing off the bottom of bowls. I personally turn a lot of bowls and platters.
May 30, 20251 yr Welcome Tony. Keep an eye on the types of jaws available. I buy jaws that look like they will work best for the project at hand. Eventually you may probably end up with a complete set like some of us. My chucks are Oneway and have similar jaws available.
May 31, 20251 yr Welcome @Turn n Learn Tony. Glad you found us. I'm not a turner so no help but we have an extremely talented and experienced group here who are. Don't hesitate to tap into their knowledge and experience. Looking forward to your ongoing participation.
May 31, 20251 yr Welcome to the forums. I mostly use 50 mm jaws , which is basically the standard jaw shipped with the majority of chucks. I use Nova chucks so cannot give you specific advise.
June 11, 20251 yr I like 35 mm jaws for turning boxes. For bowls I use 50, 75 and 100 mm jaws depending on the size of the bowl and foot that I want. For coring out bowls I use 130 mm jaws.
