Popular Post RustyFN Posted April 5 Popular Post Report Posted April 5 A while back I made a post asking about handicap lathe stands. Well my friend and I finally built two of them yesterday. This is what we came up with. It is possible to tilt the lathe anywhere from straight up to 45 degrees. These will be wheelchair accessible for a member of our club and also classes that are offered at our club. DuckSoup, Gerald, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 3 others 6 Quote
lew Posted April 6 Report Posted April 6 Looks really great, Rusty! Just a thought, I wonder if the locking knob(s) will be sufficient to hold the angled position with the weight of the lathe and vibration. Grandpadave52, DuckSoup, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 1 other 4 Quote
Gerald Posted April 6 Report Posted April 6 Rusty I had the same thought as Lew. I have made lamp holders and the hard part is to get it to hold an angle, and here we are looking a lathe weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Not sire what that black handle is on the end but if it is a pin going into a hole that might work. Personally I would use a carriage bolt with a large wingnut to hold angle. Good Luck. Something else you might want to look at is adjustable height. lew, DuckSoup, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 1 other 4 Quote

The pivot bolt is a 1/2” bolt and is tightened to where it won’t tilt freely. We also dropped the lathe down to where it is close to the balance point. We mounted my friends lathe on it an tilted it to 45 degrees, tightened the knob and couldn’t move it by hand. There is a knob on both ends. Headhunter, lew, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 2 others 4 1 Quote
