March 17, 20251 yr Popular Post Lew indicated in one of his Wednesday posts that Tim Yoder was doing some videos called "Your Turn" which was nothing more than a question/answer piece. So I sent one in and he answered it. He did have a terrible time with the name of my little town.... Edited March 17, 20251 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr

March 17, 20251 yr Popular Post Congrats Fred. Yoder must not be from the Midwest, what's so hard about Wapakoneta?
March 18, 20251 yr Popular Post Way cool Fred. I once stood next to someone who was recognized on YouTube so guess I'd be next to famous, plus I've been to Wapakoneta even if I can't say it.
March 18, 20251 yr Popular Post He did have a terrible time with the name of my little town.... He clearly hasn’t eaten Chef’s Delight cheese, then.
March 19, 20251 yr Author You know, I thought I was asking a pretty dumb question, but reading the comments to his reply it seems like there was at least a few others that was as in the dark about cupped carbide as I was.
March 19, 20251 yr Obviously, I didn't see it, Fred. So don't keep us in the dark... What in #%*@ is cupped carbide???
March 19, 20251 yr Author Popular Post The video is linked in the first post..only last 3 minutes or so. But carbide cutters are (mostly) flat, or maybe slightly negatively beveled. A cupped carbide cutter is one of the round ones, and it's shaped more like a bowl. If you present it improperly it really (really) catches on the wood. I'm not sure how I got this thing but I never knew how to use it. But now that i do I see Rockler doesn't sell the cutters for it anymore so it may not be all that useful after this one dulls. BTW, I didn't know it was called "cupped carbide" until I saw his reply. Edited March 19, 20251 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr

March 19, 20251 yr Popular Post Well, DUHHH! Didn't realize that was a link! Did I mention I'm not a computer geek? Thanks for the reply, Fred and Gramps!
March 22, 20251 yr Popular Post Cupped carbide bits usually referred to as Hunters due to the fact that he was the first in US. As in the video they cut rather than scrape as other carbide bits do. With a straight Hunter tool I can cut both entering the bowl and backing out. Makes hollowing faster and gives a cleaner surface vs regular hollowing bits. Mike makes several variations and the #1 bit on the Viceroy and some others hollows rather fast. I do not have it but I think the Hercules may be best for bowl hollowing.
