Our power went out, sorry for the shortness of this Monday topic. I'm using my cell phone to post.

Gotta love California, power outages increasing year over year, and so is our taxes! 😂

Don't make enough to have to pay income taxes. but I make just enough to have to file to get back what was withheld from my pension checks.

I wonder. Not that this applies to your circumstance Larry but you reminded me of the possibility of SSI not being taxed in the near future if current administration can swing it. Without getting into the weeds whether it's good or not for the longevity of the SSI system, does anyone have any opinion  regarding if there are no taxes on SSI period, does that mean we would be able to not include the income at all?

So for example, if a pension is 50 grand a year, and SSI is 20 grand a year, would we be able under the proposed new system, say that our income was 50 grand and not 70 grand, and be taxed on that only?

With my pension I make below the Federal amount where our SSI benefits become taxed. My pension basically gets wiped out by the "Standard Deduction" when I file.

Wisconsin does not tax SS income.

Most states don't, but I wonder, in the case where pension and ssi is taxable because the amounts are above the taxable limit, I wonder if they make it law that SSI is not taxable period, does that mean we wouldn't have to include it in our income at all as in my example above. Hmmmm

For now we still have to report it when we file. There's a line for taxable amount of SSI but since the "Standard Deduction" basically wipes out my pension the taxable amount ends up being 0.

Ya, but if it becomes law that it's not taxable at all, even for higher pensioned tax payers, does it have to be included as income, reportable yes, but will it count towards total income.

We'll have to wait and see.
