Hell, nothing entertaining about it.  You live close to a hardware store, I don't.  There's one about a 20 minute drive in either direction.  One of those is on my way to work, but they have less selection than the one in the bigger town the other direction.  That's where the home centers are too.  By the time I stop what I'm doing and go to the store, it will be an hour before I get back.  I don't mind keeping hardware on hand if it saves me time.  Not talking sorting through buckets of rusty screws and bent nails of course, but I do buy 5 lb boxes of things I use a lot like 3" deck screws.

You're a tad low, Gramps. We got (IIRC) around $300 a ton when we cleaned up the farm. Copper and brass was considerably more.
