If you don’t want to spend 5k on a pocket hole machines  or waste money on a hand drill jig from Kreg, give this one a try..

I made this with the cost of a router and can go create pocket holes way faster than a hand drill jig can. Most materials you’ll have a round a shop.

Results looks a lot like one of the commercial machine's cut, the Castle.

But for infrequent use, less than $20

Yeah, for the number of pocket holes I do, a Kreg drill set up is the most cost effective.  For context, one year I did about six projects requiring pocket holes, more typical is one or two in a year.  Last year I didn't do any.

I tend to like the results of a drilled hole too, and when I do have a project where I'm going to use pocket holes I certainly appreciate the decibel level of a cordless drill over a router in a plywood box.

If I was using it weekly, yeah, I would have to do a production style set up with fences and a production capable motor.  If I was going to build it, I would like still find a way to incorporate a drill - drills are the more efficient cutting geometry than routers.  But then if I was using it that often, my time would likely be better spent on cranking out product than building a machine I could instead purchase.

The wonderful thing about being a hobbyist is that I don't need to be making that kind of decision!

Let’s talk,about that….

Weaver  makes this machine. It has a drill tub.I used this machine in the 90’s while working for Alco cabinets. If it ain’t setup perfect, it breaks the pilot or some cases the whole bit off . That machine wa# down way too much, now tye Castle is a very popular machine using a router …

We aren’t going to redesign these machines as they have already been made…
