4DThinker Posted December 1, 2024 Report Posted December 1, 2024 Great work as usual Kev. I've done two shows and always enjoyed the interactions with folks. One was Arts-in-the-park where just about every kind of creative expression had a booth. The other was a woodworker's show put on by the Iowa Woodworker's Association. Sold a little at both but barely covered the entry cost and/or cost of the booth space. Small stuff, easy to make, easy to sell I could do but my creative impatience can't stand making more than one or maybe two of anything. 4D Grandpadave52 and KevTN 2 Quote

As you've got that market cornered, and I enjoy in retirement the peace and quiet more than the sound of busy machines, I promise to not make any Polish Eagles. What I've designed and sold the most of is variations of my Twister Lattice Plant Stand: https://4dfurniture.blogspot.com/2022/04/little-twister-simple-quick-accessory.html. One version I used snaps to attach the top, and a row of snaps in the middle. The lattice can adjust to different diameters so if your plant needs a larger pot all you need is a larger circle to move the snaps to. They are a bit of a pain to put together though. Nice and more pricey hardwood versions I'd chamfer the edges of the slats, add thin HDPE washers between the outer and inner slats, and seal with spar varnish with UV protection. I'd vary the price depending on the wood used to cover the difference in wood cost. 4D Edited December 2, 2024 by 4DThinker Grandpadave52, KevTN, honesttjohn and 1 other 3 1 Quote
honesttjohn Posted December 2, 2024 Report Posted December 2, 2024 4D, Since we're both retired, the humming of machines is much better than watching Judge Judy or ..................... I better not go there because she does help to paint Vcarve signs sometimes - but I get to wear headphones. Lol DuckSoup and Grandpadave52 2 Quote
4DThinker Posted December 2, 2024 Report Posted December 2, 2024 Peace and quiet is also far better than Judge Judy. My retirement was from 40+ years of shop noise be it the dust collector system or a planer running or router table or any or the 3 small CNCs I oversaw. Headphones were a mixed blessing as when wearing them I couldn't hear the misuse of a tool by a student or the sound of some machine that was unusual and needed attention, or the questions asked by students who needed answers. I love having my own array of tools to use when an idea presents itself and needs making. I don't care to be forced into my shop to make 20 of something for an upcoming show or such. There is a local woodworker group composed of mostly retired men and women who started woodworking after they retired from their more mundane careers. Talented folks. Can always be seen at the local craft shows. Much of the craft is simple stuff that can be made with a jig saw or lathe or bandsaw. Nothing I couldn't make myself but simply wouldn't. Not my nature. Not my love. 4D DuckSoup and Grandpadave52 2 Quote
