Popular Post Michael Thuman Posted November 5, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted November 5, 2024 Need some help my 17" bandsaw or 18" saw as per the part no stamped into the wheels. i need to replace my tires and once peeled off the wheel. I guess after 20 some years the glue finally let go on the top wheel. The bottom wheel is showing its age. I will be replacing both with a supposed replacement. The wheels are 17.5" in diameter and the width is 1.5" . I assume i can cut off the bottom tire then remove any glue. What i am concerned with is getting the new replacement tire on that is not rubber. I will also you tube replacing the tires but thought i would ask here. This forum because the tools form is under construction. DuckSoup, Grandpadave52, Gunny and 2 others 5 Quote
Popular Post lew Posted November 5, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted November 5, 2024 Do you have the model number of the bandsaw? You may want to consider urethane tires. That material seems to be preferred. Warming the tires makes them easier to get on the wheels Gunny, DuckSoup, HandyDan and 2 others 5 Quote

Got a bucket full of hot water and soaked them for 20 minutes. Then used zip ties and slowly worked my way around each wheel. Not fun but it got the job done. Much like walking a stretch to fit belt on a modern automobile. DuckSoup, lew, Headhunter and 5 others 8 Quote

I've never used glue for a bandsaw tire. Like Gunny said "stretch to fit" should hold the tire in place. Gunny, Cal, Grandpadave52 and 3 others 6 Quote
Popular Post Smallpatch Posted November 5, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted November 5, 2024 I replaced the tires on my Grizzly 18" and put the tires in a bucket of hot water for a few minutes it was no problem. Plus I used old car tire tools and that made it reasonably quick. The tire tools are thin and the edges are rounded so I had no damage to the new set I installed. Popular Post Al B Posted November 5, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted November 5, 2024 I changed the tires on my old Jet BS. Heated the belts with hot water and stretched them to fit. No glue needed. Gerald, Cal, DuckSoup and 4 others 7 Quote

ASteinfield Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 Urethane is a lot better, and less hassle too! I think rubber tires does not need glue but the urethane is going to need one. Grandpadave52 1 Quote
