Need some help my 17" bandsaw or 18" saw as per the part no stamped into the wheels.  i need to replace my tires and once peeled off the wheel.

I guess after 20 some years the glue finally let go on the top wheel.  The bottom wheel is showing its age.  I will be replacing both with a supposed replacement. 

The wheels are 17.5" in diameter and the width is 1.5" .  I assume i can cut off the bottom tire then remove any glue.  What i am concerned with is getting the new replacement tire on that is not rubber.  I will also you tube replacing the tires but thought i would ask here.  This forum because the tools form is under construction.

Do you have the model number of the bandsaw?

 

You may want to consider urethane tires. That material seems to be preferred.

I used Urethane ones about 10 years ago.  Got a bucket full of hot water and soaked them for 20 minutes.  Then used zip ties and slowly worked my way around each wheel.  Not fun but it got the job done.  Much like walking a stretch to fit belt on a modern automobile.

 I've never used glue for a bandsaw tire. Like Gunny said "stretch to fit" should hold the tire in place.

I replaced the tires on my Grizzly 18" and put the tires in a bucket of hot water for a few minutes it was no problem. Plus I used old car tire tools and that made it reasonably quick. The tire tools are thin and the edges are rounded so I had no damage to the new set I installed.

I changed the tires on my old Jet BS. Heated the belts with hot water and stretched them to fit. No glue needed.

Thanks all sorry i did not get back to you sooner it seems the model number is delta 28-682 18" band saw.

will remove wheels throughly clean the put the bands in some hot water and use round stock 1/4" dia. and work the band on.

Urethane is a lot better, and less hassle too! I think rubber tires does not need glue but the urethane is going to need one.
