Busy weekend just returned from Rockport, Texas.  Had a great time with the family and caught a few salt water trout (catch and release).  Here are some photos for your enjoyment.  The week ahead is already starting to look busy.  RV service (idiot light for Stabilitrak) and building a 6m Moxon antenna out in the shop.

"My" projects just keep getting pushed further back on the stove. I thought I would get the Wave Bowl finished but that won't happen until I can get dust free time to apply the poly.

Same ol, same ol,; Doctor appointment tomorrow mid-day; depending on that trip, maybe funeral visitation later afternoon.

Rest of the week, sit around and watch the leaves change color. Working on a scheme to smuggle some donuts across the threshold.

just back from a friend's house.  last year, i took out some cabinets under a window, including a large cherry wood top/seat in their library.  same place i removed the crown molding from the cherry bookcases, she wanted a more modern look.

today, i go back, expecting to pick up the low cabinets i took out, thinking i can reuse the face frame lumber and cherry doors for something else.  but!!!!  but they offer me the large cherry seat piece, about 30" deep and about 9 feet long, 1-1/2" thick.  score.

we talk some more, and she wants a desk.

perfect....

how about a desk of cherry that will match nicely.  i happen to have some lumber just given to me.  we take some measurements, and i head home with a truck full of lumber and a sketch.  now i have something to do in the coming weeks.

yeah,, yeah....pics when i have something to show.....

Monday was spent assembling a couple more modular cabinet boxes. Next step is to remove the old ones and hang the new ones. That will have to wait until the butcher block top is finished for a base cabinet recently installed. That's today's (and maybe tomorrow's)job.

Monday was a lot of work and in between I got the chair for my father in law glued up and finished it last night.

Going to deliver it today which will wrap up that project.

Found a really cool book called Industrial Arts Design by William H. Varnum over on project gutenburg.

He walks through elements of good design in a very clear and easy to understand manner. I plan on incorporating this into future projects.
Hope things have been going well for everyone.

just measured the large slab of cherry i was given yesterday, 124" long, 19" wide, 1-1/2" thick, with 2 missing corners.

plenty of lumber to make a desk 26x40, 30" tall with tapered legs and a 3" skirt.  might start on that next week, need to clean up the shop a bit first.

Love my Bad Boys. Picked up the brush hog this morning and tested this afternoon. Sooo much better than that old one we bought. IMG_0074.jpeg.c2cb343eedeb2001dd24cb1f92c4f3f7.jpeg

it was tight between the wheel wells and dented one of the inside fenders. Did I say it is Heavy at 600 pounds. That is right at the max for my tractor lift.

that scrubby stuff to the right was run over with the old hog, to the right the new one.

Sweet. Looks well made with a heavy deck plate. Really like the chain curtain at the front. Some just use a heavy flexible rubber curtain.

4' or 5' cutting width? Looks like you're enjoying the new tractor?

If you have any fabrication, welding buddies, have them weld a reinforcing plate on each end and the middle of your bucket on the topside of the bucket. Then weld a chain hook to each plate. Very handy for attaching chains over the bucket to lift with.

Dave doesn't need my endorsement, but the chain hooks are extremely useful for lifting things. A pair of forks is really handy as well, I'm guessing that bucket has a quick detach making the change back and forth to forks really easy.

One of my wife's friends wanted top give her some leftover fabric for her quilting projects.  She lives way across town, so we decided to take the "back roads" and see some fall foliage.  Got within about 4 miles and the road was closed, found our way around the back roads, then ready to get back on and there was a second road closure.  So took us quite a while.  We met at a place that I call "The Home Ec Store" -- they have a lot of sewing stuff and kitchen stuff, mostly shipping as they are about 4 buildings back in an industrial complex.    Anyway, my wife suggested that I look for something to give a future  grand-daughter-in-law (grandson's fiancée).  Anyway, I found some kitchen knives, so now, I've started a knife block to hold them + future acquisitions.  Alternating cherry and maple.  Photos in the future.
