I was greeted to tiles lying on the tub yesterday morning. This bathroom was on the list to rehab but the timing is bad. We have guests arriving in about 8 weeks. OK so who glues shower tiles directly onto green board with mastic ???? So yesterday and today I started the demo process. The drywall is shot and coming off with the tile so not difficult. And it was a cast iron tub which is a lot easier to get out than a steel one. So on we go.

Well things are taking shape, framing, plumbing and electrical today. But as usual the boss has thrown in a new wrinkle for me. The vanity mirror is electrified ie it has lights and antifog capabilities. I have to build it into the door for the medicine cabinet. So how do I get power from the cabinet to the door ? All I have been able to come up with is using a small piece of flexible conduit at the hinge side of the cabinet door connecting it to the cabinet body. I’m definitely open for ideas.

I would go to the store and see how the manufactures do it for their lighted medicine cabinets.

There is such a thing as electrified hinges.

Well the matter solved itself. No medicine cabinet so no door to electrify. The only electrified hinges I have used were Tectus for a full size commercial door. So now all I have to do is add a box with outlet and hang the mirror on the wall.

The bathroom is coming along. The floor is done, shower pan done and we are working on the shower walls. We have a team system. I put the thinset and tile on the walls and the boss does the layout and spacing. Marital bliss !

WOW, that's a lot of individual tiles to set especially with the shape. Looks great so far and really cool under the laser level lights.

The floor was fairly straightforward with small hexagonal tiles and the mesh was accurate. The walls are turning out to be a bit of a challenge. The fact that they are teardrop presents an added factor but the biggest issue was that they were not put on the mesh accurately which has slowed it to a crawl. We are having to cut out quite a few and place them individually. I agree with my wife that it may have been quicker to place them all individually.
