Woodcraft Supply Magazine Discontinues

I am sad, that our sponsor has discontinued their print publication, but it's writing on the walls for many print publications.

I talked to our sponsor about this and it seems it's not a sad day for them, they are pretty happy with the direction they are going, and they will have a ton of digital media to helps us along in our woodworking journey.

Sadly a sign of the times for all genre of print media. Being an old phart, I still like print media for many things but have to learned to adapt to digital. I've been around since Al Gore invented the internet which helps.

Well, Woodworker's Journal (Rockler's version) stops with the next issue. I wonder if Woodcraft will reimburse for missed issues (I subscribe, but won't lose sleep if they don't).

No reimbursement Fred, but they are redirecting us to be enrolled in Fine Woodworking's Digital Membership by only using our account number, they have partnered with FWW and I think it's fair, the FWW Digital Membership is a pretty cool thing, and it's a free new one year subscription, or if you had a 2 or 3 year subscription, you'll have a 2 or 3 year FWW Digital Membership.

Ok.  So....  

I had been a subscriber for many years.  I still had several months left on my subscription.  A postcard came telling me of the change and encouraged me to take advantage of a free electronic version of Fine Woodworking.  I accessed the site and discover I get a "free 3 day subscription" then will be automatically charged $39/ month!

 

It would seem to me that Woodcraft Magazine owes old subscribers something more than a 3 day trial in lieu of their undelivered issues.

@tom 1 that don't sound right. Let me check into this for ya.

I got mine and went to the FWW site and got 6 months. I did have some problems getting it set up, but managed to get everything going. I noticed there are several FWW links when I searched the address given on the card. Maybe you hit the wrong one????

So you only got six months Fred? I thought it was supposed to be a year for year trade off?

It said my stay expires next January.  Here you go:

 

PS (edit) I just noticed it says my "initial start date" was Feb.  2023. That ain't true....I've never been to the FWW web site for anything except maybe when someone links something there. But that may have been the start date of my Woodcraft subscription.

Sorry for the problems you've encountered Tom with the transition. Hope you can get a satisfactory resolution.

I've contacted Woodcraft to get clarification on the credit we are supposed to receive at FWW, I'll reply back here as soon as I know what's going on

Same here Fred. My Woodcraft magazine subscription was good through 31 December 2025. So basically I am losing a years worth of magazine. I suppose part of this is the difference in the subscription rates between the 2 publications.

Ok folks, here is the reply I received from Woodcraft, if you are not experiencing this level of service from FWW, please contact FWW customer service, and they will help get you squared away!

Hi John, There should not be any trial subscriptions. Each former Woodcraft Magazine subscriber should receive the equivalent number of issues remaining on their subscription in digital issues of Fine Woodworking. Subscribers should have received a postcard with instructions to activate their Fine Woodworking digital memberships. They may also request to have a print subscription of Fine Woodworking, or ask for a prorated refund. Hope this helps!

According to my information from Woodcraft Lew, as stated above in my last post, it should be a straight across replacement, issue for issue.

Right there with you. Every time I try to set up my Fine Woodworking account, I get locked out. Takes them 3 or 4 days to respond with a useless email to send them images of the screens. My Woodcraft account will have expired by the time they get things straightened out. Lost an entire year of Woodcraft magazines.

I set my account up with a PHONE CALL.

I believe I called Woodcraft and explained to the woman that I couldn't set up the account with FFW.

She took care of it in less than 5 minutes.

 

IIRC the postcard that I got from Woodcraft had a phone number on the bottom.

 

Just going by memory-----it's been longer than 30 seconds ago!!!! (more like a month)
