Had this cut in a 2" ash slab.  Finally got up the nerve to try and finish it.

Looking Good John!   Looks so real you should put a sheet of plex over the front and fill with water.  ;)

A couple of years ago at the 4-H state fair woodworking, we had an entry.  It was an end table with a glass top.  Inside he had carved and painted a rainbow trout, and hundreds of stones that were painted.  It was truly amazing.

Nice job John! Looks great!

Excellent all around John.

That's a pretty piece of Ash, John. Looks like your artistic flare is really showing through on this!

Tagging on to Mealy's post above, you know your carvings sure would be wonderful table tops!

"you know your carvings sure would be wonderful table tops!"

That's a whole different area, John.  You could either fill with epoxy or take the easy way out and put a tempered glasss sheet on top of the carving.  But, the piece has to be leveled and either a stand, legs, or frame created.  Hard to justify the price needed when doing all that.  But that being said ...........  there have been some really cool ones made by others more advanced than me.
