I’ve always just grabbed my inch ruler and flipped the numbers until a whole number landed on both ends—works fast without any math. If I’m working on something wider and my usual tape seems off, I double-check with my old wooden inch ruler just to be sure, since it doesn’t flex or bend like the tape might. Seems silly, but the little things really make a difference.
