April 21, 20242 yr I have a customer that wants a mechanical lead pencil that uses a lead bigger that a 5mm, she says that her son keeps breaking the smaller lead. Any suggestions as to a pencil kit that I can buy? Thanks
April 21, 20242 yr Hey Keith, I am not a pen turner by any means, but I always default to our sponsor Woodcraft for any supplies needed for these projects, I know that does not answer your question. The next size up is 7mm. I used mech pencils all day long at my work, I prefer 5mm for the fine detail I can draw into my notes. It does take practice to use the 5mm without snapping the lead so a size 7mm would be better for the kid. I would imagine any pencil kit from a reputable dealer would do just fine. Here is a link to the 7mm choices at the Woodcraft Supply Store.
April 21, 20242 yr Popular Post Are you guys sure you aren't confusing 5mm and 7mm with .5mm and .7mm? A 7mm lead would be enormous. That would be bigger than the big kindergarten pencils. Unless I am getting confused.

April 21, 20242 yr John, I just clicked on your link, and that is for the 7mm brass sleeves used in constructing the pens and pencils.

I just searched for 7mm Pencil kits at their website and that is what appeared, I had not noticed Tom, thanks. I don't turn pens or pencils so I am pretty ignorant on the subject.

May 15, 20242 yr Author I chose the bolt action pencil kit, it uses a .7 km lead. This is a real nice pencil.
